With the light of the rising sun came the sudden consciousness of the young Viking, stunned and blinking against the harshness of the glare. During the night, as the winds had blown around him, a considerable amount of snow had been swept up and onto his body, covering him with a thin sheet of white. Still, he remained on the ground for several long seconds, giving his eyes time to adjust as light reflected off of the snow’s surface. Sucking in a deep breath of air—it was so clean, so cool—he pushed himself up off of the ground and shook himself free of his wintry armour. Exhaling, Hvitserk kept still and watched the cloud he created, beginning his morning walk only after it dispersed entirely.
Keeping close to the fringes of the territory, he ambled through the snow without a hassle. Oftentimes he stopped to peer out over the land stretched before him, wondering what all was out there; his curiosity of the world had never quite dulled. It would be easy to venture out and see the surrounding territories firsthand, and yet, he did not. With his return being so recent still, he wasn’t ready to leave again, even if it was only to see a nearby landmark. Besides, his skills as a navigator were lacking, and he feared the possibility of leaving and then getting lost.
Looking away from the outer lands, he continued his walk along the borders. He kept his eyes ahead of him, glancing outwards again only when a distant sound prompted him to do so.
