@Howl

Feeling much better than she had in that past month, Steph decided she'd try her hand at a light jog. She loped through the forest, careful not to zig and zag too much in fear she might injure herself again. So far, though, she didn't feel anything but a little stiff from not moving so much.

Her tail waved behind her, an obvious sign that she was in a good mood. She thought about trying her paw at hunting, but she was worried about doing that, too. Still, she wouldn't let that bring her spirits down. She hoped she would happen along someone. Maybe they could jog together!
Howl was on one of his regular patrols around the territory when a dark Steph out of the corner of his eye ran by. Nothing looked to be out of the ordenary today and so he thought he would investigate and follow the young wolf. He changed his direction and began running after the girl, soon finding himself running along side the girl. "Where are you off to?" he asked. He thought about stepping infront of her to slow her down to ask his question, but didn't want her to get aggitated.
Her happiness went from sixty to zero in the instant his voice reached her. She paused, her head turning towards him as her eyes narrowed. Anywhere you're not, she said, snipping at him. She had not forgotten their first encounter, and she had no notion of forgiving him for it, either.

She still didn't know what she had done to incur such an offended response from him, but she also didn't care. She had been nice and welcoming to him, and he had been a jerk. She turned to head in a different direction, hopefully one he wasn't heading it.
He had hoped their first encounter had been forgotten by now, but alass this little miss was hell bent on remembering what had happened and making sure that Howl never did. It was almost annoying, but he didn't blame her for it. He just wished she would give him a chance to explain.

When she went to go off he trotted up to her, and then infront of her, hoping to slow her roll. "Hey" he said as he trotted up to her. "I didn't mean to offend you last time. It wasn't anything you did or anything about it. I just..." he paused thinking this girl might think he was simply droning on. "What can I do to make it up to you?"
When he blocked her path, Steph's ears flattened on top of her skull and stopped in her tracks. It was not often that someone was bold enough to stop the Alpha's daughter from going wherever she wanted to go, bar it from hurting her. Steph glared at him, a silent sign that his move had not softened her opinion of him.

Steph was a stubborn creature, not ever having changed her opinion of a wolf once she was set on it. She had tried once, with Ezekiel, and that had only served as proof that once a wolf got on her bad side, they stayed there. She thought he might give her an explanation as to his offending response their first meeting, but he seemed to stop himself.

She scoffed at his question. No one has ever got back in my good graces once they've lost them, she said bluntly. She tipped her head slightly, then continued. I suppose you could turn back time and have it not happen. Though, they both knew that wasn't possible.
She didn't try to go around him, though him stepping in her way was irritating to her. Which gave him alittle hope. He knew that he made a bad impression, but nothing bad had truely happened between the two. She explained, more or less, that she was stubborn and was good at holding grudges, at least that's how Howl interpreted it. She might think that, but how was sure there were exceptions to this rule. No offer was given as to how he could make it up to her, other then to do the impossible.

"Well if it means anything I would if I could." he said light heartedly. "But there has to be another way. Surely you have gotten into arguments with your mother or siblings before, right? You're not still angry and avoid them do you?" he asked, trying to see how heavy set her stubbornness was.
While she fully understood that her request was not, in any way, possible, her stony exterior softened just a tad when he said he would, if he could. Her mind began to go through the options on what else he could do, but they were stopped abruptly when he mentioned her family.

Her ears flattened on her head, and whatever softness that had appeared quickly turned to stone once more. Well, of course we fight, she said, anger lacing her voice. But, it's usually for a reason, she added. I asked you a simple question, and you flipped out like I had said the worst thing possible! She really could not understand his reaction, even to this day.

She realized then that there was only one thing that would make her forgive him. Understanding. Why did you act that like when I asked you if we were related? she questioned him. The anger had left her voice, but some frustration still remained. She wanted an answer, and she waited to see if she would get it.
Realllly sorry about the wait.

She spoke to him loudly and with anger, but that expected. He didn't make a move to submit to her shouts or to stand over her. Just stand and take it as he tried to soothe things over with her. As she spoke it became very clear that what was causing her anger was not understanding why he had acted in such a way. It seemed like she realized that as well when she acked his reasoning for his reaction. Relaizing that she may not have been the reason as he was trying to explain. He didn't want to devoldge too much information.

He sighed before speaking, "At the time I had lost some relatives that I was very close to. It was hard for me to accept that they were gone and once I had I didn't want to think of them again. You mentioning your possible relation to me brought those memories backWhich was why I was so adiment about putting such an idea to rest. It wasn't that I didn't want you as a relative or anything like that." he said finishing his thought. Hoping that she would understand what he was trying to say.
Slowly, as he spoke, her expression changed from offended and angry, to sad and empathetic. Steph knew what it was like to lose family. She sighed, understanding why he had been taken aback by her question. Part of her wanted to tell him he needed to realize that family would always be there, even if they weren't blood related. But, something told her he wouldn't appreciate that.

I'm sorry about your family, she said softly. I've lost some recently, too, she added, thinking of Keoni and Murdock. They can never be replaced, but if you're looking for a friend, I'm a pretty good one, she offered, wondering if he'd take her up on it. He must have wanted some sort of a friendship, or else he wouldn't have gone out of his way to make it up to her, right?
Her facial expression noticably changed and she appologized, as she symathetically referenced to the loss of her own family. Howl assumed she was speaking about Keoni, even though he knew Murdock he hadn't known how close this girl had been to him. She seemed to understand where he was comming from having felt what he felt. Then almost a complete attitude change she offered to be his friend. Finally some understanding between the two. He smiled and said, "I would love that." happy that even though it might have taken awhile they were on the road towards a friendship.
The air changed around them, from hostile to friendly. Well, Howl had been friendly to being with in this conversation; it was Steph who changed. She smiled when he agreed to the friendship. It was a little awkward, then, for he. She had never really announced a friendship before. It was always a gradual thing.

Soooo, she drawled out. Want to do something? she asked. Did he like to play, or was he the more serious type? So far, he seemed on the serious side, but she tried not to judge him on their previous encounter. If he did that to her, then she was the angry one.
He smiled when in addition to offering her friendship Steph was willing to start on it right away, when she asked if there was anything Howl wanted to do with her. Howl would have been happy simply joining her on her journey, but if she had been honest when he asked her the first time she really didn't have anying planned.

He thought about maybe going on a hunt with her, or practiceing tracking through a game. Something the soldier had throught of as games when he was a kid, but could see how that might seem like work to someone younger. He still offered though, "We could go on a quick hunt, or try to track something downIf there's something else you would like to do though I'm up for it." assuming it wasn't too outragious.
She nodded quickly to his suggestion. A hunt sounds good, she agreed. I need some practice, she admitted. Let's see what we can find, she added, turning to continue on the path she was on before he stopped her. Though this time, she expected him to come with her, and glanced back to see if he was.

Assuming he did, Steph dropped her nose to the ground as they walked, trying to pick up any recent scents of potential prey. It took a little while, but she finally found the smell of some hares. They were quick, and always turning when being chased. They would be an ideal prey for Steph to get some experience on. She glanced to Howl to see if he had picked up the same.
He was glad to hear that she thought his plan was as enjoyable as he did, or at least enough to try it out. Following her lead as he lowered his head to the ground and tried to pick up a scent. The pair were on the trail of two hares traveling with one another. Not knowing the ways of other animals Howl wasn't sure if it were because they were family or if they were mates. Nonetheless Steph was following one while Howl seemed to be following the other.

It meant that he staye realatively close to her but veared to the side from time to time. He made sure to keep his nose to the groud but also his eyes up. Knowing were they were heading was one thing, but making sure not to get too close unexpectedly was another.

Then he saw them. Taking little hops with one another. He stopped in his tracks, hoping that Steph would notice the cancelation of his steady pace beside her. Once the two were stopped her gestured for her to take the first move. This was his way of getting to know her and so he didn't mind not actually catching anything. He also wanted to make her happy.
In the same instant she looked up, Howl paused in his forward movement. Steph mimicked him, instinctively knowing that if she moved, she might scare off whatever he had seen. Slowly, her gaze followed his, and she saw the two potential meals hopping around. She kept Howl in her view, and didn't miss his indication to make her move.

Steph watched them for a few moments, trying to anticipate their next movement. They seemed random, as if the hares didn't know where they were going next. But, more importantly, they were at least sticking to one small area. Steph stepped forward slowly whenever their heads were down or turned, and when she got close enough, she lurched towards the one closest to her. They both fled, but Steph stuck with her choice, zigging and zagging after it did. She opened her jaws and just before she was about to shut them closed on the chunk of meat, it disappeared into a hole. Steph was surprised and reactively tried to stick her head in the hole after it. Her momentum kept her body going, however, and it flew over her head and landed with a thud on the other side of the hole. She yelped in surprise, but righted herself quickly when she realized she was okay. She looked to Howl to see how he had fared.
She didn't make her move right away, she took small steps closer and closer to their prey as they looked in other directions. He kept one eye on her and the other on the hares, waiting for her move. Then she lunged forward and Howl did the same, targeting the other hare and running after it. He kept his ears perked making sure that the two hares wouldn't cross paths and cause him to collide with Steph unintentionally.

Howl caught up to his prey rather quickly clamping down on it with his jaws, quickly and with ease. Moments later he heard a yelp which caused him to drop the hare in his mouth, falling to the ground and unable to run away in its lifeless state. He looked over in time to see her correct herself from her back. "Are you alright?"  he asked with a bit of concern. He worried but knew that if she was really bad off she would not have gotten up so easily.
Once she realized she was okay, Steph stood and shook her fur free from the dirt that had gotten on it. She sat back on her haunches, and nodded to Howl. Yeah, I'm okay. Just got surprised, she admitted. She was glad it hadn't been worse, though she still wished she had caught the rabbit.

Her eyes glanced to the carcass in the grass. You got one! she exclaimed. He had been luckier than her, or maybe he was just more skilled. Steph was still fine turning her own skills, and she had more mishaps than an adult would.

Like he suspected she was alright, just a bit spooked, something to be expected when your body flips over unexpectedly. Something that didn't often happen to wolves. He attitude was quick to change when she excitedly mentioned the hare that he had caught. He glanced back over at it, "Yeah. My hare wasn't quite as smart as yours was." he explained hoping to give her a little bit of confidence. Had his hare gotten to a hole like hers had he might not have caught it. "Would you like to have it. I don't think I'm all that hungry."  he offered wanting to give her a gift for her efforts, as well as for giving him another chance.

She nodded in agreement to his statement of his hare not being as smart as hers. Or as fast, she surmised, looking at the hole in the ground that her hare had disappeared into. It wouldn't be coming out for quite a while, and she wasn't going to wait around for it to, either.

Her gaze turned back to Howl when he offered up his own hare to her. She was a bit surprised, seeing as how he earned it, fair and square. She wondered if he felt sorry for her losing her own, which she would not like. Don't feel bad for me losing mine, she stated, getting that out of the way. But, just in case that wasn't the reason for his offered, she added, Why don't we share it? she didn't want to be rude, but she still didn't fully believe he wasn't hungry. Wolves hunted for two reasons: to train their young and to eat.
When she stated that he didn't need to feel bad for her, he felt he should clarify.  "I didn't offer you the rabbit because I felt bad for you. I'm just truly not overly hungry. I thought a hunt would be fun for us, and I thought it would be a good way to get a little practice in for you."  he said genuinely but complied with her suggestion.

"Sure we can share."  he agreed to clamp down and tearing the rabbit down with middle as best he could. He gave himself the butt end, not wanting to possibly offend her by giving her the better half. With the other half, he nudged it towards her. "Here, for your efforts."  he said with a smile.
She studied him a moment, considering his words. He certainly didn't seem like a liar, and she had no reason not to believe what he was saying. And so, she decided she believed him. Her tail wagged briefly, and she licked her chops as he offered her the better, as she considered it, half of their meal. Her expression changed, softed.

Thank you, she said gratefully. She chowed down on her meal, hoping he would still eat his half, even if he wasn't that hungry. She would eat, and once finished, stay to make some more conversation with Howl. She would come to find that she liked him, and hoped to hunt with him again in the future.

Hope this is okay to end here! Would like a present thread!
