She slipped.

Wait, let's back up a minute. She did slip -- and, consequently, she fell -- but how did she get up there in the first place?

Orca had never been much of a traveler; she wasn't much of anything, really. She liked to do a little bit of everything, so when the mood to explore suddenly struck her, she seized the opportunity. This seemed like a great idea, and her spirits were high as she left the plateau; what could go wrong? Maybe she would even become a scout by trade, if this trip proved to be successful. She made plans in her mind to consult with Finley and Tegan for advice.

Without a real destination, the Redhawk ranged toward the mountains to the west of Heron Lake Plateau. She picked her way carefully through the floodlands, then began to climb. It took her the better part of the day, and night was falling as she scaled the unfamiliar peaks. Stars began to twinkle overhead, and she looked up, mesmerized.

Rather than stop in order to admire the view, she kept moving. The trail was narrow, precariously so, and there was no room for a misstep. So it was unfortunate when her paw landed on a bit of loose scree, and she found herself unbalanced. She wobbled, and thought she caught herself, and giggled -- then the pebbles beneath her feet slid again, and suddenly the earth was dropping out from beneath her.

She careened over the edge of what was called Mount Everfall, never to return home.
