gaze gleams dully as her muzzle twists back at the snap of a twig somewhere on her left, moonlight for a moment catching the silverĀ of her gaze and burning out from her face. she is made still, waiting, until she moves again, claws scraping dully at the crumbling rock near the riverbank. she sinks forward, scraping not with the intent to unearth but to cover up. paw pads pull loose earth and rock together, patting it down; she is careful, methodical.
The river offerred little for her. Despite the starlight that evening, Eva was simply not agile enough to catch fish. Still, the cool water felt nice on her tired paws. She had splashed about like an idiot for nearly two hours seeking a meal. With little more than a muddied coat to show for it, Eva gave up, and began wandering down the riverbank.

The crickets and frogs mocked her as she made her way to nowhere in particular. She'd spent far too much energy hoping for fish, and everything around her annoyed her now. The river's burble covered the sound of her steps as she searched for an animal that might have come to drink. The thirsty and the hungry were on lower alert for predators, and that gave her some chance at least.

Ahead, she spotted a silver critter. She assumed a coyote. Despite having no claim to the land, her tail raised aggressively and she stormed forward, teeth bared. As she got closer, the smell confused her. Her lip twitched and her tail lowered, still wagging dominantly. "Who are you?" Eva demanded.
