When her eyes finally opened, her golden, wandering eye was revealed. Instantly, Božena was ostracized by the Romani tribe she was born to. It was a gradual push to the end of the line; she was the first to be pushed away from her mother's teats, always being pushed away by the playing children. Her yellow eye was seen as a Seer's eye, seeing the things normal people could see. In truth, she was afflicted with a type of synethesia that allowed her to see what she called "spirits" or "auras" around wolves.

The only wolf who would tolerate her presence was the current healer, who taught her most of what she knows about healing and even some spells. The rest of her "magical" knowledge came from interactions with fellow "exiles".

She helped out her tribe with her fortune-telling, spell-making and healing, eventually creating a reputation as a go-to for many women (most looking to become pregnant, or get rid fo a pregnancy) and men (who wanted blessings for war, or to curse an enemy). But she was still ostracized by her own tribe despite her power. Only one bridged the gap between her and the tribe; Djordji. A simple warrior, known for his fast feet and cunning, he and Božena soon grew fond of each other, and were eventually mated. They produced no children, with Božena fearing passing on her "curse", instead becoming protectors of the orphaned pups they came across.

Their bliss did not last them long, however. The Romani were largely despised by settled packs, especially those who knew their negative reputation as thieves and conmen, openly mating with coyotes and dogs. The tribe ran afoul of one such pack, and while trying to get away before any worse conflict came about, they were ambushed. The tribe was scattered; Djordji was killed in the melee, defending her and her charges.

Božena sank into grief. She attempted to join another tribe, bringing the remaining Roma with her, but her sadness was too great. She slipped away one night without a word, living alone for a few years before finally finding Teekon Wilds.
