"The Girl" was born into a pack that had been unable to conceive or coerce many females into its ranks for several years prior. Most of the pups born into their ruthless ranks passed away in childhood, and those that survived were all male.

At six months old, The Girl became a coveted ideology. The men thought of her as something divine, and all of them vied violently for the right to own her— which in turn made the aging breeding stock of the pack very jealous and abusive towards her. But of the four older females, the one called "Yellow Bitch" did not agree with The Girl's treatment, and sought to free her from the destructive pack before she came of breeding age.

YB lost her life in the failed attempt to free The Girl, but that same night a freak lightning storm rolled through the territory and set their home ablaze. The Girl escaped in the resulting chaos and fearfully set out on her own to find hope and a new home.
