Profile of Jökull: Details
Appearance
Jökull holds the appearance of a winter-born creature through and through, despite her fairer mother's southern heritage. Dappled in many dominant shades of silver and platinum, any small amount of tawny locks fight for their place among her thick, lustrous pelt. Darker agouti mingles flippantly down her spine to accent the exotic Northern look, while charcoal eyes are seated upon a masked and chiseled visage. Mesomorph.
Biography
In Summer, Jökull was the firstborn to Njal “Palestrike” Sveijarn and Tuwawi “Proudheart” Sveijarn. She was born alongside her brother Valtýr, her sister Maera and her brother Lárus. They were the first pups born within Swiftcurrent Creek.
Jökull and her three siblings were born into perturbing times. Fox – Alpha of Swiftcurrent Creek – made some foes prior to their arrival. Two wolves by the names of Ferdie Von Pelt and Jace were ordered to kill each other due to unsavory activities. They desisted. In doing so, Fox ran them out of Swiftcurrent Creek.
Exiled and harboring disfavor for Swiftcurrent Creek's callow Alpha, Ferdie Von Pelt and Jace set out to claim the Sunspire Mountains. Thus began a bitter rivalry betwixt the two packs.
The Sveijarn babes never witnessed the edgy contention between Swiftcurrent Creek and The Sunspire, but Njal and Tuwawi did. Fed up with Fox's reckless antagonism – which ultimately ended in two of her members being captured by the Sunspire – Njal and Tuwawi decided that Swiftcurrent Creek was no place to raise young. They searched north and south for a more suitable home.
In late August, Tuwawi and Njal found the perfect place to call their own: a glacier, bordered by land and sea, north of Swiftcurrent Creek. Excited by the prospect of leading yet also saddened to leave the pack they have been a part of for so long, they return to Swiftcurrent Creek to say goodbye to a brokenhearted Bazi.
Corralling their young, the Sveijarn departed from the Creek and headed north. Many wolves of different origins joined them along the way. Together, they trekked further into the outer reaches of the Teekon Wilds. Jökull and her siblings – being only two months old – found the task arduous. Once they came to their new home, however, they knew it was well worth the travel. The Sveijarn and several other wolves lay claim to Duskfire Glacier. This was their home and this would be their legacy.
Yet their legacy was short lived. A lynx raided Duskfire Glacier, striking them where they were weakest: the babe’s den site. The feline escaped with Lárus in tow, leaving nothing behind but blood and fear. The days following were a blur to the unseasoned Jökull, but she remembered one thing: striking out on her own in search of her missing brother.
That was the last time she saw her family.
Still a babe, she was not able to go far. Worse yet, the nefarious lynx who had abducted Lárus came upon her. Her sharp puppy teeth did little to hinder him on his journey out of the Teekon Wilds. It was not long before the feline came across two belligerent hunters out scouting for prey to hunt. They attacked the lynx, dogmatic of their kind. The lynx had no choice but to abandon his stolen quarry, escaping with his life. Fortunately for Jökull, the hunters saw purpose in her near dead form. They brought her back home, where several others nursed her back to health.
What with her still being a young and impressionable pup at the time, Jökull was stripped of her identity. After all, the only world she had ever known up until that point was the love of her family. What good would she be to them if she was constantly yearning to go back to that point in time? So Jökull became one of the Enlysylik. Her two saviors – siblings Rhydderch and Mabyn – named her Elain. Jökull stubbornly refuted. She may be young and far from home but she was still her own person.
Despite being relocated and torn from her loved ones, Jökull never forgot who she truly was. She was Jökull Sveijarn. That's all she knew with a certainty though. She could not recall the autumnal furs of her mother nor the rugged arctic coat of her father. She remembered no one except for her name; a fact that bothers her to this day.
After a full recovery did her education begin. The Enlysylik flaunted an impressive array of arts to teach, but two skills were required amongst all: hunting and fighting. Jökull was no exception; she would learn their ways or be cast out to face the wilds alone.
The Enlysylik wolves were like any other pack, though they relied less upon two individuals. Alphas still existed though the power they have over the rest of the pack was...handicapped, for lack of a better term. Alphas could rarely do anything without consulting with the Triumvirate first through its three primary leaders. With great power comes great responsibility, no?
Time flew for Jökull. All of her time amounted to an impressive arsenal of both offensive and defensive maneuvers. Of course, so too did her hunting prowess reach new heights. Aside from that, her time with the plateau-bound wolves honestly wasn't all that memorable. All time and energy were spent training and learning. The same could be said for her teachers. The Enlysylik aspired to be the best at what each individual did so that meant limited time for retrospection.
Jökull grew listless. She knew how to fend for herself now. Though there was no guarantee for her survival outside the pack, she wanted to stretch her legs. Her life here was repetitive; she was tired of it. It was time for her to leave the nest. When she brought up the subject with Rhydderch and Mabyn, neither took to the idea well. But they knew better than to confine her here.
Saying their goodbyes, Jökull finally left the Enlysylik at the ripe age of two years and a month old.
With no allegiance to shackle her, she explored. With no pack to fall back on, there was little Jökull could do aside from map out the area and meet wolves she's never seen before. She did just that with wild abandon.
The Sveijarn did well for herself...until winter came. Luckily for her, there was a bunch of wolves looking to claim land to survive the coming winter. She joined. It was different than her time with the Enlysylik; they established a strict hierarchy with two leading wolves. Jökull did not much care for the constant worry for retribution. Their way of life was new to her and yet she was punished for it. No, she determined. I've had enough. She left them at the first whiff of spring and traveled endlessly west.
That is how she came back to the Teekon Wilds.
