These bonds are far from broken - Potema - March 19, 2016

Potema could sense the moment she stepped back within the folds of Teekon Wilds. She stepped over that invisible boundary, unmarked by scent or any physical markers and knew that she was close to home. Potema shuddered as a wash of memories flooded through her mind: of the dark woods where she was born and raised, the two brothers whom she loved, her foster father Burke, the Dark Brotherhood, the ravens, the Redgrove, Mother.

Both her blind and unharmed eye blinked shut for a moment. The priestess sighed, her warm breath washing over the pelvis gripped tight in her mouth, filled with leaf bundles carrying special herbs, marked with strange shapes gnawed into the bone and red dye that looked suspiciously like blood (it wasn't, blood doesn't keep very well); it was her mother's pelvis now enchanted by the priests of Hag Fen. It had magical properties now, her link to the Void through her mother. Potema set it down tentatively, careful not to spill any of the bundles that rested inside the maternal embrace that once surrounded her. Potema murmured something softly to herself, unheard by anyone except Mephala and Sithis, then bent down once more and returned the pelvis into her grasp.

She stepped forth into Teekon Wilds, into the Terrace where she entered into the fray. Hills and mountains blocked her way, but Potema was certain she could find her way back to Blackfeather Woods in due time. She would be slow moving in her trek, but it would be worth it in the end.

She would be home.

RE: These bonds are far from broken - Pallas Stormthorn - March 19, 2016

As the Stormthorn's hunger grew, so did her restlessness. She prowled the western shelf of Cassiopeia's shelf before finally resorting to turning towards the darkening shade that marked the treeline. Once she got through the bramble towards the dip where the ground flattened she saw a wolf, as stark as her, trotting along. She would have scornfully turned around were it not for the thing in the wolf's mouth that caught her interest. Her stomach panged sharply and she trotted towards the wolf, her strides elegant and powerful despite the old hitch in her gait that suggested a past soft tissue injury. She perked both ears and stopped before Potema, hungrily staring at the bone within Potema's jaws.

Her return to Teekon did come with a welcoming party, but it was not one that she enjoyed. A female with a coat similar to color but not in state of well-being limped in front of her. Potema would have growled "What do you want?" over her mother's bone had it not been for the hunger that radiated from this woman's eyes. Instantly a snarl billowed from the witch's throat. Her single eye blazed with warning though her fangs were kept locked over the pelvis. In her mind familiar words rolled through her mind as her stance became at once defensive and offensive:

Sithis, Bless us for your cause
Present to them your wrath
Scorn them, for they must be shown
Why they have invoked his wrath

Her intent would be to kill if this female wouldn't leave her alone — her duty was to protect this bone until it reached the safety of Blackfeather Woods, and send anyone who dared get in her way to the Void, or close to it. This starved creature looked close to death anyway. It would be a mercy — if Potema believed in such a thing.

Most wolves would have extended a greeting. The only thing Pallas extended was animosity. She wanted that bone. No, she needed it. The Stormthorn stepped forward at a canter, approaching from the she-wolf's blind side. Her aim was simple: take whatever she could grab of the bone, and wrench her head to the side in a crocodile roll to dislodge Potema's grip on the thing. She had high hopes her grab would be successful since Potema's mouth was full and it was possible Potema would not see her. Unless Potema dropped the bone, she may not be able  to defend herself from Pallas' advancement and attempt at thievery.

Of course, the female went for her blind side. They always did. It was something she came to expect of her assailants. Unluckily for her her mouth was full and her bodyguard was far from view. Potema, trying to balance the herbs that lay inside, swung her head so her eye — the one that still remained — remained locked on the white female, simultaneously bringing the bone away from the wolf's grasp. Had Inigo been here, Potema would have stayed and let the Mexican assassin fight, but Inigo was not here. She had to fight by herself. Placing the bone down would give the other a chance to swipe it from her. The witch had only one good option.

Putting dignity to the wind and a fierce outcry from her inner voice, Potema ran, placing as much space as she could from her and the starving wretch. Of course, the older female would follow, but with a limp that would not be so easy. A few of the herbs fell out of the pelvis, and one of the bundles opened, but herbs could be grown again. The pelvis of a powerful priestess marked by witches could not.

Unfortunately for Potema, the Stormborn did not stop. As Potema turned away Pallas would likely crash into her shoulder, as Pallas had been cantering while Potema had been still. This fact alone put victory in Pallas' favor and would likely hamper Potema's first few steps of escape and slow her down considerably. As Potema turned to run Pallas changed her strategy, aiming instead to stop the female by attempting to grab her exposed cheek as she turned  to flee. All she wanted was the bone, nothing else. Pallas may have had a slight hitch in her get-along, but Potema was scarcely more than a yearling and as a result would likely be easy to overcome should she somehow manage the tangle of teeth and limbs Pallas presented.

RE: These bonds are far from broken - Potema - March 20, 2016

Potema was not skilled in the field of fighting. She failed to think that the wolf would not stop moving and because of her lack of insight, stumbled at the sudden collision, nearly dropping her mother's pelvis in the process. It succeeded in tripping her up as she scrambled away, but the white witch managed to return to her feet quickly. The elder white wolf, was quick to attempt to drag her down. Fangs on her cheek, Potema growled over the bone. Damned cannibal! She hissed, trying to shock the wolf with the knowledge that it was a wolf bone. Regardless if it would work, Potema dragged her self away, feeling a sharp sting of pain as blood was drawn. No matter. It was her duty to protect the bone on its passage to Blackfeather Woods to join her mother's skull. She would have suffered anything to get it there. Successful in dragging herself away, Potema would keep running, her gait staggering as she tried to right herself.

Pallas was thrown by the collision, but it did not deter her. They were in close quarters now, and without a large gap between them, Pallas was not about to give up. She was not interested in savaging the youth, but neither was she interested in relenting. The bone was all she wanted, and Pallas liked to think she was deserving of getting everything she wanted.

As they pulled from the tangle of each other's limbs and Pallas' bite glanced Potema's cheek the taste of blood seemed to fuel the resurgence of Pallas' conviction that she needed that bone. She was hot upon Potema, after all, the two had just been within kiss or kill distance of each other a moment ago. Running with such a large object meant adjusting your posture and running upright, which did not lend to streamlined speed. This would be a hindrance to Potema, but in the end if Pallas stole the bone, would also be a drawback for her as well. Pallas aligned herself with Potema's blind side. She lengthened her stride best she was able and once more lunged towards Potema's cheek, this time her teeth aiming for the jutted intrusion of the hip-bone. Whatever she gripped, the female would slam on the brakes in an attempt to wrench whatever she seized straight off balance. If she missed the pelvic bone, she would be just as happy seizing cheek or scruff. Pallas knew if this broke out into a fight she would have to be quick, as the old injury on her hind end tended to cause her pain in sustained efforts.

RE: These bonds are far from broken - Potema - March 24, 2016

Potema was impressed by the woman's desperation determination, but it wouldn't stop Potema from tearing the woman to shreds given the change. Potema needed to outlast this woman — that limp of hers would prevent her from maintaining a fast pace for long. And she had to do something about the bone. She wasn't sure how stable the bone was and she wasn't willing to take a chance, not now. But she had to get the bone out of her mouth in order to properly fight back.

And again, her blind side was invaded. Potema stopped in her tracks just as the ragged woman lunged. She was aiming clearly at the bone, but Potema jumped forward into the blow, taking the metaphorical bullet for her mother's remains. She winced at the fangs on her scruff, but pushed backwards into the woman, intending on bowling her over or at the least wrenching the fangs from her body.

As much as Pallas wished not to be thwarted, the fates did not align with her wants that day. Potema nimbly changed her tracks and Pallas flew into her, finding her teeth dislodged by the sudden movement. Pallas stepped back stunned by the shouldering blow, her head raised high as she stared at the youth. For a moment her head bobbed up and down as if gauging how best to approach, but the pale woman's limbs remained still. With a spit she spat the blood from her mouth, watching Potema for her next move.

RE: These bonds are far from broken - Potema - April 01, 2016

The two white wolves broke apart, Potema still (to her surprise) holding the bone tight in her mouth. The girl stared at the woman, breathing heavily as she looked over the ragged creature in front of her. Potema felt a sneer flicker across her mouth as the woman spat out blood, knowing she did some internal damage that would slowly harm the woman rather than a brutal attack now. It was the slow kill, the lasting pain that Potema enjoyed.

Potema took this standstill to again flee the fight. With her precious cargo still far from its destination, fights were a thing to be avoided or fled from. Potema, already wrapped in a fight, chose the latter, taking one last opportunity to finally flee. Turning as swiftly as she could with her large bundle and running as fast as possible, Potema hoped to gain enough distance from the older woman to secure her, and the bone's, safety.

Last post for me! Thanks for the thread

The she-wolf watched as Potema fled. Scornfully she trailed the white wolf's form until it was but a plume on the bleak landscape. All that effort for nothing. Potema was but a speck in the distance when Pallas finally moved again. Conceding to thirst and exhaustion the old wolf clambered down the valley towards the spring that gurgled ahead. With a sigh she hunkered down and lapped at the water in silence, toying with what to do next.
