it had been two weeks since lusca had brought three gems into caiaphas' life: three furry, crawling, screaming, squalling gems. to some the unexpected life would have been a burden -- for caiaphas, they gave her purpose.
each time she walked into the den she was reminded of that purpose.
each time she glanced one over, she was reminded of that purpose.
it beat in her heart, a shrill resonance of maternal fury and pride. they were not hers, but they were hers -- they did not know it yet, but she was theirs.
quietly she wrapped herself around the darkest of her sons, her nose pressed against his own gently. for the first time in her life, a content warmth flooded the fierce yellow of her harpy gaze.
