the deathnotes you left inside me - Indra - January 01, 2018

for once in her life, indra's vibrant fur offered her unlikely camouflage. the spires of redworn rocks, windbitten and pummeled, were a shade of russet not unlike her own. very little snow had managed to work its way into the canyon, though not for lack of coldness. the winds that funneled through the gorge were harsh and powerful, and snow accumulated in nooks while the exposed and flat areas remained bare from any white.

indra picked her way along the rim of the canyon, her shoulder to the wind as she followed the scent of what appeared to be marmot.

She'd never seen the place before, imposing and beautiful at it was. Wind pushed itself through the rocks with a passion, shoving through her fur and chilling her rapidly. She picked her way along the edge of the canyon, noting old prey scents here and there and yet not particularly inclined to try for a hunt. Her winding exploration of the place was interrupted only be the appearance of another, one that had her paws still on the stained stone as she watched her. Faded cobalt gaze watched the flicker of flame as she too traversed the edge of the canyon; but the flame's trail was focused, intent on something. For now, she watched, noting how closely the girl's fur matched the burning rock, entranced.

the scent of marmot carried on for several hundred feet before it dissipated around the upright form of an ice-riddled boulder. indra had no hopes of following the trail into that tiny crevasse, and so, defeated, she continued on her way.

she was not alone, however -- the very wind that raked past her cheek carried the scent of another wolf and she cast about until her eyes fell on the figure. she was grey and feminine, and from this distance indra was able to deduce that she was of similar age. wary but not unfriendly, indra gave a gentle wag of her tail -- she was unwilling to approach unless the other bid her to do so.

She did not go long unnoticed, and the girl gave up her trail - for she had deduced that the path she followed carefully had been such - and looked her way. Her own tail echoed the gentle wag of the fiery girl, and a careful smile came to her muzzle as she picked her way closer, chuffing softly a greeting. The wind pushed towards the girl, and her attempt to pick out her scent was in vain, though she found she did not mind; her encounter with Howl had given her more confidence in interaction with strangers.

the softly uttered greeting was enough to encourage indra to come closer, though she did so quite slowly. she took careful steps across the rubble until she was twenty feet away from the stranger, in which she assessed the female carefully before continuing. she seemed of decent enough health - indra noted none of the bizarre shakiness or ataxia she had witnessed in that other wolf. she offered a fleeting smile as she looked around them.

"pretty place, right?" she called by way of greeting, her gaze focused on the red rim of boulders that sheltered them. "cold though." she added in after thought, not liking how the wind raked down her back in uninvited gusts.

archiving because of removal but feel free to HMU if you bring keoni back

the wind drove in vicious spurts against indra's body, raking with bitter alacrity down her limbs and up her exposed belly. she felt cold -- so cold that she turned to keoni apologetically and said: "too cold. i'm going to go."

with a reserved smile she turned from keoni then and adopted a quick lope back to bearclaw. it would be dark before she made it home, but she looked forward to the security and the comfort of her den - it supplied great energy to her steps and she moved quickly like a phantom across the bare landscape until she arrived at home.
