the echo of some foreign song - RIP Lainie - January 20, 2018

The clouds had been leaving the horizon since late morning, the sky gradually returning to a blue that served to remind the girl of spring. It was warm; a thaw had found its way into the coldest month of the year. The steady drip of meltwater had Lainie pick her way carefully around the lake's edge, wary of the odd icy patch made dangerous by the slick layer of water atop it.

A curse left her through gritted teeth as quite suddenly her forepaw decided to take flight against the ice, shooting to the left as her body lurched right to compensate. Her other paws lost traction and for a moment she flailed, gaining her paws only when a rear limb sunk into frigid mud, simultaneously anchoring and disgusting her. Grimacing, paws having found their balance, she carefully made to continue, extraction her limb from the mud with a sound that worsened the expression on her face.

RE: the echo of some foreign song - Lennon - January 21, 2018

Lennon's muscles seemed to move a little easier after his and Alarian's confessions. He was no longer stiff from allowing his anger bubble up inside a sealed volcano. He paused when his amber gaze fell upon a thawing lake, instantly making him reminisce the first time he met Korei. His eyes caught a movement around its perimeter and spotted a young figure, carefully navigating so they don't slip - unlike his snowy companion.

Until history repeated itself and the stranger tripped on the slippery surface. He smirked, not out of amusement of her embarrassment but instead of the irony. He trotted closer to the muddied newcomer, stopping when he was close enough to be heard. By now he recognized the silhouette as female and smaller than he. For the time being, anytime he approached an unfamiliar wolf he was adamant to make sure they couldn't take him in a fight after recent events. "Hello!" He cheered, his voice imitating a song.

The lyrical voice caught the girl completely off guard, having Lainie step back quickly before spinning. Cold mud encircled both rear ankle, now, and the sucking mud was absolutely disgusting as she stepped towards the male, chuffing her own greeting. Distracted with finding her way back to solid(ish) ground, the girl's mud-tipped tail whipped behind her as she attempted to pull herself away from the muck.

This endeavour too was doomed to fail, however, and she lurched backwards as her front paws slid against the thawing ice again, rear meeting the mud with a particularly loud sound. Biting her lip once, she set about reclaiming the fast fleeing shred of her dignity, surveying the male with an expression that said only this is fine before trying for a "hello"

The male watched awkwardly as the girl struggled heavily with the muddy, slippery terrain. He flinched at the sudden slap as her flank fell into the thick mud. When the charade ended, he hesitated to respond. ”Do you...need any help, then? I can show you a place to clean off.”  There was just no world where the male could pretend what just happened, hadn’t happened.

He glanced down at his own paws, seeing the extreme lack of dirt versus her own. It only dawned on him then how little trouble, besides his disabled leg, that he had in the winter terrain. All perks of growing up in the Great North, he supposed.

"I'm fine." Lainie's words came out a bit sharper than intended, and she shifted awkwardly before continuing, words softer. "but if you know a place less shitty than this, it'd be -nice." She hoped she hadn't screwed up already, fora quick scan of the male's spotless limbs had her more than interested in wherever he'd come from, if only to clean off. She shifted out of the mud carefully, expression still akin to something near disgust. The cold seeped through her fur, the cold settling on her skin. She wished dearly the lake wasn't a half-frozen mess, otherwise, she might have simply jumped in

Lennon gestured with his muzzle for her to follow, sending her an amused smile. ”Why are you all alone out here?” He questioned, just as he had Korei and Xahi in the past. She had no scents teaming at her fur, clearly without companionship. It was dangerous for petite wolves to roam about in solitude midst the biting ice of winter.

The strangers vulgarity was a shock, he knew not to judge a book by its cover. Yet to see such a profane word escape a small wolf like her in the beginning of the conversation was not anticipated. In fact, he likely hadn’t heard a crude sound since the formation of his trio. Anyhow, her surprise failed to alter his acceptance, something beyond minuscule in his opinion.
