i'm not gonna beat her with a sock full of butter - Nox - April 21, 2018

Set after she chases the coywolf off.

As she crosses back over the borders to Ironsea, she feels determined to search for @Smokestep and seek him out, but something keeps her from going right after him. The strain in her legs is evident, having chased the tiny canine away from the pack—she won’t be back any time soon—but her legs burn with the extra effort she had to put behind them. Before she wants to see her leader, she needs to take a rest so she doesn’t look terribly winded, or in pain, but she doesn’t want to go too long that her efforts are no longer valid.

Instead of calling for the captain, she decides to look for his scent. For now, she keeps to the borders and walks out the soreness created but her nose is to the ground, half paying attention to the patrol and half searching for Smokestep by smell.

Searching for Smokestep was best done nearest to the borders. He spent a great deal of his time marking their bay and keeping a watchful eye on any unwanted passersby. The young Captain had been possessive of the territory ever since he had set his sights on it. The dark Leviathan had been right in saying it was an ideal location. With the new blood in their ranks, Smokestep found himself having grown increasingly wary of others who could find themselves a little too near to his claim. The young pirate was not keen on unwanted visitors, and the idea that his father could have sent someone to check on him was enough to cripple the yearling. He paced the nearest entrance to their territory with rigid fur and lengthy strides until he glanced up and caught sight a slow-moving Nox who was meandering in his general direction. The pallid wayfarer chuffed to greet her and waited to see if she would approach him or swing wide and move on with her patrol.

When she spots Smokestep in the distance, her face lights up and her gait quickens, hurrying in his direction, nearly missing the chuff of a greeting before she skitters to a stop. Dirt and sand flies about and she loudly chuffs back. “Yo,” she announces with a swish of her tail, her posture relax and loose, drooping a bit in his presence. “I just chased off some weird lookin’ wolf from the south, hangin’ ‘round too close,” she adds, glancing upward to view his expression before looking awkwardly away, hoping he’ll be pleased with her work.

Nox was quick to offer a recap of her most recent whereabouts. Smokestep eyed her with some interest before he nodded his head in understanding. It was good to hear that she was stepping up to guard the borders of the bay. The young Captain was interested in who she might have chased from the vicinity of their home. He canted his head a bit and searched her features with eyes that bore into her own. “Good on ye… ‘ow close was this scurvy bilge rat? Wot was weird ‘bout it?” he inquired to her with open interest. Smokestep had done as best as he could to stay on top of the patrols, but he had a fair amount of drama to handle with his best mate and the other leaders of his Ironsea crew. He had wanted to keep his wolves as close as possible, but tensions had gotten high with many of them.  While he might have appeared troubled, he was still obviously pleased that Nox had taken so well to the task of protecting their claim. Smokestep was proud of her hard work.
