fiskers don't make noise when they start up, just so you know - Bat - May 22, 2018

Bat plopped out of the log and army crawled about six feet through the green grass (it tickled so much!) before her mother's voice rose behind her. "Where," Wildfire said, her volume increasing as she came up behind the pup now sprawled on the ground, "do you think you're going, young lady?" She fell silent then, though Bat's huge ears quivered as she ever so slowly turned and raised her eyes to peer upward at her dam.

When she found two chestnut eyes staring sternly down at her, Bat offered her most sheepishly wolfish grin, her little tail thumping. "Fi' homie!" she tried to explain. (Wildfire fought back the smile at her child's gangster mispronunciation of nomi.) "So'y," Bat offered up when her mother continued to peer down at her, rolling slowly to present her pale tum.

Hoping for @Thuringwethil, @Silkie or @Tux but anybody's welcome! :)

Silkie often kept to himself, tumbling around and learning about the world around him. But, every now and again, he couldn’t help but take an interest in his family members—and by every now and again, that really means it was a constant thing, he just didn’t always make it noticeable. Anyways, with his sister and mother talking and moving—he liked the whole moving around thing, it was tons of fun—he found himself staring. From his corner, where he laid sprawled out flat on his stomach, he watched them and waited to see what would happen next.

She squealed when her mother bent downward, not to punish her but to tickle her (same difference?). Bat instinctively swatted at the cold nose that descended on her pale underside and attempted an alligator roll to escape. She managed—probably because a smiling Wildfire let her—but even as the Goufa attempted to dart, something clasped the tip of her little slate tail. She flopped backward theatrically and then shot an accusatory glance over one tiny shoulder blade.

The Feisripa grinned back at her, then said, "You can play out here, just don't run off or I'll never let you out again." Too young to recognize the hyperbole, Bat's ginormous ears momentarily flattened, though she perked up again quite quickly when she realized this meant she could explore the small, grassy space just beside the downed tree her family called home.

But this would be so much more fun with some company. "Kee! Kee! Tus!" Bat chirped, summoning each of her litter mates (unaware that her nicknames for Kiwi and Silkie were entirely identical). Only @Kiwi reacted, bouncing out of the fallen log and tumbling into the grass beside her sister. Bat immediately pounced, tackling the cocoa girl and pinning her before glancing up and peering at the den's mouth. Where were their brothers?

Thuringwethil had found a large piece of driftwood a few days prior, pulling it up from the sandy beaches and into the cavern and out the other side so it could dry in the sun. With several good days of warmer weather and the sun beating down from clear skies, she’s rewarded with the dampness fading easily. When it’s ready and most of the moisture gone, she picks it up and carries it the rest of the way to the whelping den.

When she gets close enough, hearing the sounds of a small-scale tussle, she doesn’t feel the need for urgency. Kiwi and Bat are scuffling playfully while Wildfire watches nearby. A smile forms around her grip and when close enough, drops the piece of wood nearby and first greets the fiery woman before her attention redirects on their daughters.

I wanted to continue this so it doesn't go stale. Sorry for skipping @Silkie!

Neither of the two boys showed any particular inclination to join their rambunctious sisters. There was no time to contemplate this, however, as Kiwi's teeth suddenly pinched her ear and Bat made a low warbling sound that quickly rose in pitch, ending up somewhere on the same decibel level as a low-flying airplane.

Fortunately, their nomi's arrival prompted Kiwi to unlatch and bounce in the commander's direction. Ignoring the temptation to tag along—despite the interesting object Thuringwethil carried—Bat instead plopped to her haunches and rubbed at her over-sized ear with a hind leg. It still stung.

But as the pain ebbed, the Goufa found her energy and rolled back onto all fours. She gamboled over to nomi, sniffing curiously at the strange piece of driftwood. "Homie!" she chirped in greeting, tail waving. "Sat?"

The girls separate and bounce forward. A wide smile forms on her face as her tail wags, lowering to the ground once she’s doted on their crowns with a gentle lick. Kiwi begins to inspect the gift and Bat doesn’t beat around the bush. ”Something for you to play with. Chew on. Drag around,” she offers, using a paw to nudge it. Her teeth latch on to a piece that projects her way and gnaws on it a little bit, hoping to get them started with their new jungle gym.

Thuringwethil offered up several uses for the peculiar object: they could play with it, chew on it and drag it around. Bat contemplated all of these things even as her blue eyes shifted to watch Kiwi sniffing at it. Both pups jumped slightly when their nomi latched onto a prong, causing the entire piece of driftwood to shift. Bat's over-sized ears twitched at the sound of the commander's teeth scoring the petrified wood, then again when her sister mimicked the adult and began nibbling at it too.

Bat didn't feel particularly like chewing at the moment, though she didn't want to miss out on this cool new plaything. Moving toward a branch suspended an inch or two off the ground, Bat nosed at its smoothness. Then, carefully, she climbed over it, albeit only halfway: front paws on one side, hind feet on the other. The Goufa stood there a moment, ponderously almost, before relaxing her weight so that she was effectively draped over the driftwood like a towel hung out to dry.

I'm SO sorry for the wait. D:

It doesn’t take much prompting to get Kiwi to do something with it too, taking over to chew on the other side. Slowly, Thuringwethil releases her grip on the driftwood and licks the shards left on her lips as the girls continued to investigate. Nomi does not interfere when Bat starts to crawl over it—it is a toy for them to play with—and eventually she drapes over it. Kiwi doesn’t give up the chewing and, instead, begins to latch hard and tug, trying to pull it despite her sister’s weight. The dark woman makes herself comfortable on the ground, watching the playful scene unfold before her.

No worries at all. :)

She might have dangled there until the end of time, except that Kiwi spoiled everything by rocking her little perch enough to cause a bother. Bat squinted at her sibling before sighing and slithering backward off the driftwood. She didn't care enough to pick a fight with her sister.

Instead, the Goufa moseyed over and plopped beside the Heda, so close that much of her small weight leaned against Thuringwethil's thigh. "Homie," Bat burbled fondly, now resting her cheek against the commander's muscled leg.

Kiwi keeps chewing on one side of the driftwood while Bat tries to take it over but she’s too disturbed before long, slinking off and backing away. Thuringwethil gives the blue tinged girl a glance before her attention returns to the first born, watching her start tugging it around without the weight of her sister. Before long, though, Bat has dropped to one side of her and leans against, resting comfortably on the next to her and settling on her napping spot. The mother smiles and lowers her head, gently licking the side of her face and down her muzzle a few times before she withdraws. Kiwi plays a little while longer before eventually settling close for an easy afternoon nap.

The little Goufa's eyes closed, her cheek pressed into the commander's soft warmth, a contented smile curving her lips at the gentle licks. She made a cooing noise, eyes cracking open slightly only to drift shut again. When Thuringwethil shifted her weight, Bat oozed to the ground at her feet, cheek now resting on the slope of her paw. She made no effort to stay awake, instead letting herself be drug down into sleep, undisturbed by Kiwi's eventual company and anything else going on around them. If there was one thing Bat did best, it was napping like a champ.
