inhale that drug, but you start to choke; you follow the outs of an inside joke - Jagwyr - May 28, 2018

Discovery of this mess. :P

The black wolf looked upon the slaughter with hard eyes and a frown deep like a slow but stubborn river that, over some long time, had dug out the land and made a place for itself.

He was no stranger to the savagery of nature. Once he had believed that the wild promoted balance, that there was reason in all things, but he had seen enough to know that a falsehood; a pleasant dream and a convenient lie.

Jagwyr tipped back his skull and howled — not a thread of mourning in the fabric of that sound. It was pragmatic. It carried urgency but bore no emotion as it called for @Constantine and @Durnehviir. His summons made, he sniffed at the blood and fur, and inspected the tracks the grizzly had left, following them some distance through the cover before returning to the site of death to await the arrival of his leaders.

PP here, tagging Sam for visibility but feel free to reply and/or kick me if you want anything changed.  :)

A summons for a leader was expected often, but a request for both was rare. Durnehviir had been on the way back to her family with an antler firm between her jaws when the voice of a pack-mate sounded from elsewhere in the territory, and she paused to listen. Over-sized ears rotated in the direction the call had come from, her muzzle swiftly following as she tried to gauge the location.

Huffing an anxious breath through flared nostrils at the detection of urgency in the messenger's tone, the russet Alphess assumed her stride with new haste toward her den-site. Her path crossed with that of an unfortunate @Samothes on the way and insisted that he accompany her there, where she abandoned him to baby-sit her brood without any real explanation before hurrying @Constantine along with her to answer their comrade's howl.

The scene they arrived to was grim: what remained of a body, scattered across the ground. A powerful aroma hung heavy in the air, a foul scent of death and decay beneath the heat of the midday sun accompanied by something else - something threatening. She halted, examining the blood-smeared rocks from a distance with her guard hairs on end, champagne eyes narrowed on hide that was was significantly dark. Koji, came her initial thought before considering Chusi? She shuddered. Durnehviir was hardly impressed by the actions of the two Omega wolves, but she would hardly wish any harm on them.

She looked at the male who'd summoned them, another of her mate's more recent recruits, and asked: "do you know what happened?

He was able to take a more hands on approach with their children, now that Durnehviir was able to expel some of her energy and leave the den for lengthier stints. She was never gone long – but the dark wolf did revel in the moments he had with their brood, despite feeling as if he was completely out of his element.

He was nosing a wrestling match between two of them now with a gentle firmness when the howl resounded across their home, causing him to give pause, a frown falling on his features. Within moments, Durnehviir had returned with Samothes close behind her.

There pace was fast – and as they came upon the scene of blood and fur, Constantine felt his mouth become dry. Durnehviir questioned Jagwyr while the Mayfair took in the chaotic scene in worried consideration. His nose dipped down, his nostrils flaring as they hovered over the tracks, and he felt his stomach churn uncomfortably.

There were so many now coming and going from their ranks and with only the copper scent of blood and patches of dark fur it was hard to determine who it was that had likely met such an unfair demise. Mentally, he went through the check list of dark furred wolves within their ranks. Koji. Chusi. Samaantine. Ingram.

“It’s Ingram,” he noted then, his words quiet. “Wylla’s brother.”

"Found it as you see it," he answered, lowering his skull and sliding back his ears in a brief acknowledgement of his leaders. The deep frown he had bore upon the discovery of this scene was replaced by his usual impassive and indicipherable expression.

Constantine confirmed the dead's identity as the black wolf stood by and afforded his alphas the chance to inspect the gore and make their assessments. He need not say what had done this to their packmate — neither of them need to. There was no mystery, except, for some, why — a question Jagwyr could not care less to answer. It did not matter.

"Tracks are headed out," he informed, having gone ahead to check the bear's immediate trajectory. "I'll follow them and confirm it has left." He swished his tail idly, awaiting word on whether or not this is what they would have him do.

Just an FYI - Shardik carried Ingram off so there's no body here. In case that was not clear (it was not to me at first but the read-only thread was edited for clarification since).

The dark male answered simply and straight to the point, which she appreciated, but the finer details were lacking. Constantine went on to announce with surety that the victim had been Ingram, the brother to their prickly Wylla, and Durnehviir frowned deeply. She was due to whelp soon, and the news of her brother's mysterious, dark fate would surely bring her to her knees. Silent, the russet Frostfur's gaze lingered on the grim scene before them, thinking on the terrifying fate that her pack-mate had surely faced.

She blinked at Jagwyr quietly, dipping her muzzle in silent gratitude for his suggestion that he follow the attacker's tracks. "Yes," she agreed, champagne eyes turning to her mate for confirmation, "please."
