— there's just us. People. Doing our best to get by." - Reyes (Ghost) - July 17, 2021

Whether he settled in among the wolves of Brecheliant or was denied, Reyes would go off to wander closer to the caldera regardless. His path today took him in to the thick of the woods. He toiled aimlessly against the winding paths found within, making pathetic mental notes of animal trails or listening to the sound of birds in the trees, which silenced as he passed. Nothing really lingered in his mind aside from Towhee — that she had been injured and now sat in the safety of the caldera, mending.

His children were hot topics too; Reyes assumed that it would be more difficult to watch over the children while their mother was on the mend, and that made him want to be there all the more. It was infuriating to be this close and yet be repeatedly denied access to them. First by the guardian Azon, next by Ruenna, which had stung more than the young man wanted to admit. Ruenna had been there for the birth and lingered after, caring for Caracal, Sphyra, and Tierra as diligently as any parent.

It made him feel like she was to blame, somehow. That his role had been so swiftly replaced. Frustration at the current circumstances of his life ate away at Reyes. He had to stop hiking through the woods when he came upon a winding river — too dark and deep to see the limits, and too quick-moving to fathom a swim. Another road block in a life of impediments.

The man let out a deep bellow that swiftly spooked the birds from the tree boughs overhead, scattering their little bodies until they found new roosts.

Lele had not encountered anyone else, since meeting Maia in the mountains, and thus floated along the calm river of solitude. The weather was mostly nice, save for a mild tint of smoke in the air, but it was hard to locate, where it came from and therefore soon she stopped paying attention to it. The scent blended together with the rest in the background, while she wandered the paths and tracked trails left by prey.

She had sought out shelter in the woods from the heat and there she soon noticed another nomad, walking in a short distance away from her, paying little mind to the surroundings and seeming to be deep in thought. Lele hesitated a little, wondering, if she should approach or not, but then this moment was cut short too, when a bird, spooked by her presence, flew up in the air, flapping its wings loudly.

Once the chaos of the flock died down, the singular fluttering of a set of wings behind him caught in his ears. He turned to look at the surrounding forest with agitation written across his face; Reyes' entire body was coiled as if to defend an attack, his scruff spiked and tail raised, puffing out. It was a brief moment of uncontrollable anger — but then he saw the stranger.

They looked thin, somewhat ragged. Young, too. Although wolves could only glean a general sense of a stranger's health and age by their scent, nothing was amiss with this one... At least until he adjusted and faced her properly, seeing a strange shape within the shadows on her face. A scar of some kind — starkly mutilated.

It didn't look fresh. It didn't look very good either.

You look like you've seen better days. Which was rude and a bit too pointed to be friendly, but Reyes wasn't feeling very accomodating at the moment.

I am very sorry for the wait! Life's been difficult the past few weeks.

The male got startled and his first reaction was defensive. Ukulele did not let this sway her, she regarded him calmly (avoiding direct eye contact), kept her body posture neutral and wagged her tail a little to indicate that she meant no harm and, if anything, a peaceful resolution of any possible conflict was welcome.

Few moments later he seemed to relax a little and addressed her with an observation that might have been translated as rude, but Lele did not mind it. After all there was nothing false in that conclusion - she wholeheartedly agreed. "I have," she nodded affirmatively. "So have you."
