cold twist - Vairë - January 09, 2023

1/5 for base hunter trade!

She had improved well, gotten over that hump of healing. Thus, she had been released from the tender mercies of the healers, under strict orders to do nothing straining and to take it easy for the next weeks, but she was a creature of contradictions.

So, she swept out of the healers den that morning, donned her red fox coat, and immediately went to disobey orders. Not too much, she didn’t want to end up back among the scent of medicine, but she loped around the far side of the lake, her nose to the ground and snow clotting her legs, tangling in the delicate furs there.

The track she followed was that of a marten, the weird noodly beasts she remembered from her lesson so long ago. She had grown since then, though she still thought of Foxfur fondly. Her gait was steady, without the hitch of aching, sore muscles, and she moved like the doe, striding cautiously through the snow.

hope it's okay ro is always after hunting

Rodyn hadn't seen the she wolf since the day outside the healer den. He hadn't asked after her either. She'd been kind and mischivious friendly, but he jad gone on a day trip with Samani and she always managed to push everything from his mind. In the best possible way.

As always he was out and about after something to hunt. To fill the caches. No one would say he shirked his duty.

The thin Samani sister caught his attention. Vaire and he gave a low sound in greeting. Immediately noticing her stance.

Hunting? Would you like help?

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 10, 2023

Rodyn was quick to join her, and she gave a little snort of hello, snow billowing from the motion.

Of a sort. She chimed, raising her head to look at the man.

Im not supposed to be doing anything stress worthy, so I suppose I’m tracking for fun. No matter how much she wanted to lunge into a run, race the whole of the Spine, that wasn’t going to fly with her recovery.

RE: cold twist - Rodyn - January 10, 2023

Muzzle dipped low in greeting, a flash of a smile. As they moved.

He heard her words and nodded. Well then how about you track and i'll run. I know it's not the same, but at least it won't be unfruitful then our journey to track. You feeling better it seems.

There was a small sadness there. He hoped her pain wasn't paramount and she was healing nicely. Whatever happened, must have been difficult.

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 14, 2023

Vairë picked her head up, giving Rodyn a happy little nod.

Oh yes. I feel a lot better, even since you saw me last. She hummed with a quick side to side flick of her tail.

But the healers say I will not be back to optimum for some time. I hope to be back in full by the time the snows clear. And, she hoped privately to herself, moonwoman would have found her the correct husband.

RE: cold twist - Rodyn - January 14, 2023

Rodyn grinned at her happy little nod. Glad to see her hale and hearty. It seemed she had a rough go of it and it was good to know she was doing alright.

Well then i'll hope for you too. But you look like you're doing well and i'm glad to see it.

He flicked his own tail and then put his nose to the ground to find the creature she'd been hunting.

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 14, 2023

She smiled privately to herself at that, before putting her nose to the ground with renewed spirit.

I am hunting the martin. It is small and should be too focused on the tiny things it hunts rather than the big things that hunt it. She spoke low, barely more than a whisper.

RE: cold twist - Rodyn - January 14, 2023

Rodyn didn't see the smile, to focused on the hunt now. He smelled a few things, but there were marten's, and weasels and even the very low scent of a deer or a fox.

She gave him the answer he craved though and with a nod, he went towards the scent of the little slinky beast.

We can probably surprise it, if we're quiet. He whispered a grin taking up residence on his face, as he got caught up in the hunt. Body low to the ground, immediate predator crouch.

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 14, 2023

She ducked her own body low, humming out a short reply to Rodyn.

I am sure of it. She spoke, lower than before, barely more than a whisper of air. Then, she moved, as slow and as cautious as old doe once had.

First we must find it.

RE: cold twist - Rodyn - January 14, 2023

He followed her lead, Going low and cautious. He told her he would chase she would find. So he was fine to follow her lead.

Rodyn always so eager to hunt and almost as eager to please as long as it didn't ruin his self worth.

He sniffed along the trails, but stayed near her while she rooted out their quarry.

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 14, 2023

There.

A brown flash against the snow.

Vairë remembered the first time she’d seen the creature, when she was still young enough to be confused about it and why it killed.

She knew far better now.

Her eyes followed it, her body ready to leap into action at the slightest motion.

[ooc]I really need to learn how to do accents above letters. I have never learned [/occ]

Rodyn saw it a beat of a minute after the Lady Vaire.

He tracked it with his eyes, and then with a burst of speed, and a small spray of dirt, he rushed forward. As promised he would catch and chase, she would find.

It was a tricky beast, but he finally caught it with a snap of jaws, and a sharp shake breaking it.

He returned to the girls side and lay it at her feet and smiled. There you go.

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 16, 2023

She observed with eyes like river stones, flicking between every point as Rodyn’s teeth met the curve of the martin. They tangled there, and she itched to join.

Vairë could not though, so she stamped the ground with her paws and aggressively chattered her teeth together. Her tail swept in stiff motions behind her.

The martin was at her feet soon after, and she looked it over with a critical eye, before she smiled.

Beautifully done. She said with a quick nod of her head.

RE: cold twist - Rodyn - January 17, 2023

Rodyn caught the tail end of her little aggressive stance. And he had to chuckle. Why did Kukutux have so many adorable children. He thought of one of his brothers then, anyone would have made a wonderful husband for the she wolf Vaire, but he didn't know if any were near other than Sandulf.

Thank you.

He swished his tail back and forth and looked around. Do you wish to find more?

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 17, 2023

Vairë hummed at the creature at her feet, before her eyes lifted to Rodyn. After a moment of thought, the doe shook her head softly.

No, I believe this will be enough for today. Thank you for the assistance, Sivaluk. She dipped her head in thanks.

One day, I will hunt like that again. She mused aloud, reaching down to pick up the martin.

RE: cold twist - Rodyn - January 17, 2023

Rodyn dipped his head to her. You're welcome.

He moved to make his way away. But he stopped to answer her. You will one day, possibly even better. I have learned that sometimes when you take time away from something for whatever reason. When you come back to it. You have more skill and patience for it.

RE: cold twist - Vairë - January 17, 2023

It was rather good advice.

She took it in stride with a dip of her head again, tail giving a friendly sweep from side to side. She adjusted her grip on the marten.

I will cache this. Thank you again, Rodyn. She mumbled around the animal, tail happily moving side to side, before she began to walk back the way they had come, using their trails through the snow to keep from pushing through the white powder herself.
