her children had not yet reached a month, but mireille was determined to introduce the sea to them as early as she could. today she had brought a pretty conch shell with a rosy whorl.
she set it near her brood and stepped back, reclining to watch them with interest.
so much personality could already be seen at this young age.

Lucette took to the shell with immediate interest. So little roused her to such an extent — this would be the first time Mireille had seen her small daughter truly engaged. She reached out with both paws to feel it, pull it closer.
Then she leaned her muzzle forward to lick it. Unfortunately, it did not pass the taste test. Lucette wrinkled her muzzle and spat.

Maman. Shadess nearly purred to see her mother's return. There was something peculiar which she brought to their hollow this time. As she settled it, one of Shadess' sisters moves quickly. Grabbing and licking, testing the (salt) water of it. Shadess padded up close, little tail out high and stiff. She too paws at the shell, watching closely over her sister protectively.

she chuckled at lucette, then watched shadess more carefully investigate the shell.
slowly she snuck her paw forward, turning the shell on its side to expose rosy insides and the beckoning hollow call of the sea echoing deep within.
crimson ears lifted to see which daughter might seek the ocean's voice first.
