Wealda did not often wander, but the sense of other drew her further than she would normally tread. She did not proceed where scents were thickest, but curiosity burned within her as she stared towards the darkened peak.
Mulherin had returned to report in, setting Redd more at ease with a subsequent departure. She disliked the mistrust that had seemed unshakeable, now reduced to patience. He had not found what he sought, and tasting the scents, Redd found none familiar. She would have kept her distance either way.
She would linger in this place a while, both to hunt and to learn what she could from a distance. It was rare that strangers settled here.
