It was a dangerous place to wander, but when he spied a beautiful piece of moonstone, he knew for whom it was intended. So he braved the gulch and scrabbled up and down the monstrous curves and edges of the quarry. And, eventually, he clawed his way back to safe and stable ground with a perfectly circular piece of moonstone.
A piece that he fumbled and dropped as he reached a resting place. He stared down at the two broken shards, his heart sinking to his stomach at the sight. He could still give @Callyope a pretty rock, but it would not be the same perfect piece he'd first spied.
Dejected, he sat and smacked one shard so that it skittered a few feet away, where it spun on the stone before seeming to point south-east. He stared at it, ears folding first forward then back.
