Do you mind if we post date it to today?

Frozen mud was caked onto a twiggy animal. Sofi ventured onward, desperately trying to find a stable food source with easy access. She had continued traveling almost throughout the entire day, stopping only to feed on what was likely a diseased raccoon carcass curled up in the snow. She had gone through a marsh, across a river, and through fields of white to reach the coastline. The scent of salt water intrigued her. It smelled of dead things that were unwanted and easy to eat.

As she reached the coast, snow started to come down in big clumps. It stuck to her fur, covering the frozen mud in a healthy layer of white. No matter how much she shook her coat, it made little difference to its cleanliness. At a certain point she decided she would worry about it later, and think only about survival now.

In the distance, she saw a brown thing. Sofi quickly realized it was a wolf, confidently moving along the beach without a care in the world. She had met kind wolves and unkind wolves. Today, she was not sure she wanted to gamble, so she did what coyotes do to wolves; she followed a safe distance away.
