taltos did not notice the shyness with which renoir turned his face away -- a small and secret amusement bubbled within him, and he listened to the cadence of the other's speech, knowing it only in passing during his time upon that exotic coast. "il parle à mon coeur," he responded, wishing he knew more of the patois that rolled smoothly from renoir's tongue.

deirdre piped in the glen-words; he drew near to her. "ils sont là pour vous," he responded in the shared language, not wishing to alienate their companion. the swampwater of taltos' gaze soon found and embraced that of the gilded man. "as-tu une maison?" he breathed.

he wished to know more of renoir, and thus was more pointed in his speech than perhaps he meant.
