asherah spoke, and eshamun nodded, watching the girl flee them both. and when the acolyte had disappeared from view, the ekar-aji of the malkaria broke into sobs, turning to bury her face against ar-khalba's chest and allow herself to stop fighting the mother's grief of losing her children, the agony she had been holding at bay for so many weeks.
