"I did wonder," she said, breaking eye contact to watch her own feet. "But I wondered about Ferdie, too. He launched at those coyotes like a mad-wolf.. the sight of you both would have been enough to ward them off. And I sometimes say 'somebody I know' when I really mean myself." Here, Bazi looked back up, locking eyes with her pack-mate. "Are you dangerous?" she asked him, frank as ever. Jace's father had developed the trait as a result of repeated trauma, but Jace carried it with him from birth. That made him unpredictable, and that scared her.
