His awareness of all things was still very dim compared to the scope he could one day behold, but was growing by the day. Sight had been gained, and cleared gradually. He was far steadier than he had ever been--now very noticeably so. His head didn't bobble aimlessly and his legs didn't always buckle beneath him. Progress, and growth, was having its effect. He still didn't outmatch his pale-coated sisters, but he was putting more distance between him and his dark sister. Just another way they were all making themselves distinct, and this was still only the beginning for the steely Jarilo.

In a bleary state of half-awake, he noticed the absence of his mother and it drove him to snuggle deeper between his sisters. With them, warm and cozy, he felt his eyelids drooping quickly once more. He was satisfied for the time being.

Although when thunder finally rumbled outside, he roused once more. He had never heard it so clearly.

But as small as he was, there was nothing to be done about it. Eventually his mother returned, and he was further eased--despite the wealth of odd scents on her fur, even just from her short excursion. His mind reeled.

One day soon he would understand better.
