Being too inside her own head and missing things around her was something that happened repeatedly. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, since it was this unwavering focus that often brought her to fruitful results, but it made her undeniably more vulnerable, in a way, to fall victim of the element of surprise.

Like now for instance.
She had been so eager to find something, but she had been found first.
With her ears pinned back instinctively and the bridge of her nose wrinkling slightly but not enough to reveal her teeth she turned towards the source of the sound. He wasn't food, or treasure, so he must be trouble.
Or well, not really.
Nothing in his demeanour seemed threatening, and he even spoke in a soft, gentle manner.

Inmediately, Maera allowed herself to relax, though her ears and tail were still kept high and alert. "it is" she agreed, her hazel eyes fleeting from him towards the sky for a brief moment before coming right back to him, "my name is Maera Sveijarn" she barked, not bothering to ask his in return for she thought if he was as chivalrous as he seemed he would promptly do so on his own.
