Quip had rather enjoyed Joker's company, though, and thinking of him now caused a pang in her chest. She chewed on her lip at the wolf's next question, contemplating for a long while before answering.

"Yes, it's just me," the vixen replied, Joker's face and the faces of their eight ill-fated sons flashing through her head. She had no mate, no children and no legacy. She didn't even have friends. That had never really bothered her... until now.

"I'm—Trailblazer, by the way," she said next, pulling the name out of thin air. But that's what she was now: a trailblazer. She was going to forge a new path for herself, and innovate for her species while she was at it. Plus, make that totally fresh start she wanted. "What's your name? What's your pack called?"
