I once saw the end of my life.

She had been settling in well. Her memories and sad thoughts were pushed aside with the prospect of exploring. She liked exploring. Mostly so she could find the best places to hunt (which was her main reason for it), though it was good to get an overall feel for the place. However, once she had finished exploring and instead simply hunted, there was plenty of time for the emotions to return and haunt her.

Knew. Oh, she missed him more than she could explain. He should be here, beside her, with his goofy grin and playful attitude. Pige. He had called her Pige. He was the only one able to call her that - and he would always be the only one to call her that. The former Ice Queen missed his voice, his face, his jokes, his everything. The way he smiled at her and hell, just how he looked at her. She missed it all, and longed for it back. If she could, she would turn back time, go through that happy time again. Replay it - keep it going. Gwen knew nothing lasted forever, though she had wanted that to last for as long as possible - but it had been taken from her. Snatched from beneath her paws like an owl stealing a mouse. It was gone.

But she would remember. The memory of him was held close to her heart. Perhaps she'd molded it to herself - made it a part of her that could not be removed. Would that mean she would never be able to let another love into her life? Maybe. She could not be certain. But she didn't want to love again - she did not trust such a game, not anymore. The ivory wolfess had had enough of that. Pain, all it brought in the end was pain. It had been worth it - but no more.

She lay under the shade of a large tree. She had finished hunting, for now, and instead had decided to rest and watch as the sun fell beyond the horizon. The sky turned from blue to orange - a fiery, bright orange. It was beautiful. Despite all the pain, all the heartache, all the fear and the anxiety, the sunset made her happy. A small, ghost of a smile danced across her lips, a pure one. It was faint, barely noticeable, but for once it was not forced.
