The Wall -- echoes of thundering hooves

While it came to no surprise that she did indeed disturb the man and apparently his pack as well, she was disappointed in his response.  Mirabelle straightened and felt herself cooling, brooding, the ice queen taking the reins at the forefront of her mind.

If she had disturbed him so much, it would have been easy enough to dispatch or otherwise chase her away but instead he chose to lay down.  She ignored her own urges to pace and also dampened the burning sensation in her wounds (which seemed mostly isolated to her legs although a garish gash on her hips would require closer inspection later) and calculated instead what she could say to diffuse the situation — she had already offended him once.

Excuse me. The Melisende woman could not afford to be afraid but her previous capture made her flighty; she twitched uncomfortably and a pain seared through her limbs as she tried to diguise a small noise of pain. Of course it would.  She shifted her weight but remained standing — a better position to run if need be.  I apologize for the inconvenience.
