The Heartwood things lost to the flames

Her laughter had a delightful tune that pleased his ears, and he felt kind of full of himself for bringing it forth as she stroked his ego with her following comments.

Varick watched with a prying eye as her foreleg deftly broke the surface of the water, returning with another one of the wriggling creatures.  Although he tried to hide it, he was once again pleased with this outcome!

Though he has nothing to say, he agrees with her and grabs two of the fish, reducing them to bone and then gnawing on those, too.  Varick reclines, laying down on the burned ground.

He wants to leave, to banish himself from this grievous forest but so long as she decides to remain, he figures he will accompany her.
