But he does not need to come up with a rebuttal because she admits that she is going to visit another man, another pack that he has very little interest in.  Varick has nothing against packs, sure, but he is not certain he wants to be plagued with constant pressure to socialize, and is definitely certain that he does not want to crawl his way through the lowest tiers of packhood.

He takes in a deep breath, weighing his words before he ultimately, inevitably lets her down. I do not think I wish to stay here either, but I cannot say I will join you to meet your friend.  His lips tighten and he swallows, hoping that she does not take it the wrong way.

I'm not sure.  I do not want to face winter by myself but I am... averse to joining a pack.  It feels dishonest to join up.  And if you haven't noticed, I am not the most sociable.

He turns back to her with a sigh. I can accompany you most of the way, if you would like?  The side of his mouth quirks up again, Unless you'd rather be rid of me.
