All Welcome

Growing in quite nicely, Starbelly mused as she craned her neck to preen at one silken shoulder. Yes, bitter and chill winds were rising — winter would soon be upon them. The vaudevillian did not appreciate the cold or how it drove all the prey away, but she did particularly like her plush, seasonal pelage and how it looked upon her frame. It was her undercoat that grew in thick and heather-grey, giving a buxom appearance to a coat that was otherwise flat black. It was warm and it was lovely; velveteen, Donovan had always said. It was a true shame how, in the summertide, it always fell away. Every year she prayed it wouldn’t, but it always did.

Starbelly smiled to herself. At least, at this point, the best was yet to come.

However, a winter required more than just an expensive winter coat — and soon the dark woman realized a den was needed. To be underground was stifling, but to be aboveground during a storm, on this plateau, would be even worse! So Starbelly bid adieu to her nights spent beneath the needled pines and sweet evergreens and went in search of something a little less expansive, and a bit more snug. Morningside’s hearth must have a home to suit her needs, lest she find someone and usurp theirs! With a small titter and a toss of the head, Starbelly continued to survey the lands for a certain, special hole in the ground — one that held a promise of much, much more.
