Fern didn't like children, but she had endured for the sake of her parents. They were always popping out new generations and since they came from a wanderlusting stock, it was rare that any would stick around; so it fell to Fern to be responsible and to pick up their slack. She looked upon Finley's rotund belly with as much interest as she might gaze upon her mother's, which is to say.. She didn't care much.

Finley's question made her shrug and then her eyes squinted as she did some quick (probably wrong) math: A few weeks, maybe longer. Neasa was obsessed, but maybe she was just using you as an excuse to leave mum. You know mum, always growin' the family, another glance at that belly and Fern redirected her thoughts, realizing that she didn't have any motivation to stay in these wilds now that Neasa had reached her goal. She wasn't about to linger just to cow her sister's efforts to get laid and if she'd wanted to be a babysitter, she'd have stayed home.
