he was alive and well.

whatever trouble rehan had gotten himself into this time, he'd weaseled his way out. if he were a cat, he'd be on his eighth life. somehow, god had found it prudent to spare him--for whatever reason. it wasn't his place to ask divine questions, after all.

the coywolf weaved through the tide pools, sniffing occasionally at the brackish water. he knew that when the tide came back in, this place would retreat to the sea, and its bounty with it. pink tongue ran over his chops, imagining the taste of fresh oyster.

so slick, so cool. like the entire ocean, condensed into a single morsel.

his heart hurt, but he ignored it for now. his stomach was of the utmost priority; if he didn't eat soon, he'd surely perish. one could live without a heart, he'd learned, but not without food.

terribly superficial notion, that.
