Joining
she came slowly through the cascading flakes, filled with a trepidation she herself did not quite understand. the winter had been difficult thus far, and it showed with the slim emptiness of her slender sides, the narrow width of her hips. vuk was a creature that was not fond of others, but with the continuing snow came the murmur of her primal brain, telling her 'twas the time to seek out shelter.

and so vuk found herself on the pungent borders of a ridge pack. steeling herself, the woman gave a series of short barks, requesting the appearance of a leader, before her ears cupped back to cup against her skull. vuk crouched in the snow with an unsure whine, shivering with the stress of it all, compounded by the cold wind filled with blowing snow.

He emerged from where he had laid down to rest several hours earlier, having been all but hidden from sight as the snow fell and blanketed his head and spine. He was roused by the barks that came from his borders, not far from where he had chosen to bed. The pack was nearing fullness; but he was still open to accepting another suitable wolf, in particular another female.

Taggarik connected with one of the pack's main trails and followed it to the edge of his domain, around which was another trail that he turned on to. It was far quicker travelling these established routes than blazing new paths through the dense cover of snow. It did not take him more than ten or so minutes to catch sight of the lone female.

He did not stop until he was standing in front of her, relaxed but holding himself in the traditional stature of an alpha: tail and head raised.

he was dark, the man who approached, with piercing grey eyes. she quailed invariably, not straightening from her crouch, and whined placatingly into his face, gaze narrow with supplication. upon the snow behind vuk, her tail swept in an affable manner. here stood the one who held her fate, for though she might wander again if turned away, her disheartened air might not glean her a rank in another pack.

vuk was silent, pleading.

She was appeasing in her manner. She had passed the first check point; one so simple, so easy, and yet so often missed by those he found at his borders. He gave his tail several broad sweeps before allowing it to settle into neutrality, his presence no longer asking that she hold herself in deference to his position, for it had been acknowledged and he was satisfied.

"Take it you're wanting to be a part of my pack," he commented as he dropped his haunches to the ground.

the man spoke -- vuk heeded, and though his syllables were difficult to decipher, the intention of his tone was quite clear. he had been satisfied by her display; vuk allowed herself to gather into a hunched pose, not yet wishing to attain her full height lest she turn him against her. so worry-laden was the wolf! vuk wished to do nothing that would bar her entry.

"paa... pa..ck," the woman spoke, instantly frustrated with the laboured delivery of her unused speech. "yes," she added, punctuating the affirmative with a short nod.

vuk dared to glance as high as the man's cheekbone before her gaze found swiftly the comfort of the white snow.

She struggled to speak, but unlike his quiet Gamma, she could at least do so in some capacity. But it mattered little. The black wolf would have no qualms about accepting another wolf like Farstep, who had proven himself an asset to the pack.

"Well, you're in luck," he said. "We got room, and as long as you can pull your own weight and be useful, you're welcome to stay." He quirked a brow at her, his tail swishing idly. If she accepted he'd give her the tour, and like everyone else, her value would be appraised in the coming weeks.

his inflection was welcomed with a low whine from the woman; she crept forward on her belly, tail curling under her undercarriage. extending her muzzle, vuk sought to lick his chin, once, twice. her ears perked momentarily; she shot the alpha male a look of gratitude from below lowered lids. here she would reside; here she would live, and thrive, and though the thought of meeting the others caused trepidation to trip in her heart, vuk fought for calm and awaited the next instructions from her new leader.

You can fade with your post :)

She accepted, and he welcomed her officially by applying his scent to her by brushing his head and shoulder against her, his tail waving behind him. "So what's your name?" He asked of her as he turned and gestured with his muzzle for her to follow. "I'm Tagg, and this is Porcupine Ridge." He brought her across the borders and into his, and now her, home.

"vuk," the woman told him, this word guttural and filled with the sound of an epithet. yet it was hers, had always been so. she traveled at his side in silence, gratitude filling her heart in a quiet sort of way as she entered her home.
