Deepwood Weald: Tree upon spindly tree line the entirety of this forest. They are tall, lanky things that stretch high into the sky where their branches tangle together. Save for the few infantile trees, none of their branches are within reach to the forest creatures that crawl within this deep wood. Light cuts through their limbs at a peculiar angle, casting this place in an eerie white, foggy sort of hue that makes it difficult to see in any one direction. As far as following footprints? Most are lost beneath the red and green ferns which line the floor. This wood is a large repetitive stretch with few distinguishable markings. It’s difficult to navigate and easy to get lost in the weald.

The remains of a large bear's kill is ripe for the taking. It's unclear what the animal once was, but right now, it's food.

for a moment the man believed himself dreaming, but it became quickly apparent that blood was upon the air, thick and rich with a mouth-watering aroma. it was auspicious, as he had decided not long ago to take three hale wolves and travel far for the herds that had disappeared. upon the edge of the weald, he dropped the locusts he had been gingerly carrying and sent up a howl for donnelaith.

bear. the musk was thick around a ravaged carcass, and the druid approached cautiously, searching for any sign of the predator before slinking close to the torn meat and beginning to devour, hackles raised and belly clenching as his first tastes of blood in some time struck the shriveled organ.

he would carry this home in his gut for emaleth and deirdre, but first, lasher would restore his strength.

The wolf was desperate in his scouting for food – with the prey gone, a litter due any day now and his mate now rounding in her pregnancy, Scimitar had not felt this sense of despair since he had seen his son’s face for the first time after the bear had taken his sight form him.

His paws had carried him out of their once plentiful woods – and right to another. The scent of blood and bear was almost enough to turn him away – except he had to be sure.

There was a familiar man in the woods, hackles raised and gorging upon what seemed to be a decent sized morsel. He felt disappointment rise in him as he realized who this was – Lasher, of Donnelaith. He had not wanted quarrel with the sea wolves.. but he could not turn himself away with a clear mind. “Lasher,” he greeted, the name spoken by his sister. He waited – curious if the man would invite conversation.

Shadowposted! Editing... Edits complete. :)

Kaertok's belly rumbled when he smelled the kill upon the air. He shrunk back when he smelled the bear, but it was nowhere to be seen. Not only that, but another wolf was feasting upon the kill. So either the bear was gone, or the threat of it was not enough to outweigh the delightful meal that was ripe for the taking. The boy knew he was risking it by moving in toward the kill, but he needed that food. A voice called out, and Sungiwok hoped that the wolf would be distracted long enough that he could grab a bite from the opposite side of the black wolf before vanishing. He had no intention of getting into a quarrel. He was too weak, too young, to risk that much.

Darting forward, Malrok attempted to rip off a chunk of the dead thing's flesh for his own famished belly.

She was desperate for food, feeling in her bones the truth of the situation at hand. Eshe had to pee more and more as of late. And she was craving things... none of which were ever readily available. But Kaskara required food, for it was known she for certain was pregnant and was fit to burst. God. The kids would die if no food was earned for them... Kaskara with them, surely, having no sustenance for herself! She traveled not far behind Scimitar, hungering, and tired, and deep, deep down, excited despite the odds against her.

Neverwinter offered little to nothing. Rabbits here and there, but they were growing harder to catch. Harder to find, too, with the lack of greenery. But the scent of blood was in the air... and Eshe moved double-time to where it lay. She glanced around her for signs of the predator that had done this... but there was nothing there. Smelled like bear. But as for what the bear had killed...? Eshe did not have it in her to just dig in. Her morality might very well be the death of her.

After stopping briefly for a good old sniff of a rock, Goldhawk looked up and galloped gently to catch up with his Alpha Female. He walked quietly with Eshe and the normally chatty chappy had nothing to report — he thought he'd smelled rabbit by that rock, but he'd been mistaken. Up ahead though... oh, up ahead was something most devourable. The gold bard licked his lips, then leaned in low to speak quietly to Eshe — what do you think, marm... bit of the old one-two? He was talking of the strangers, of course. Scimitar, Eshe and Goldhawk could take this food no problem, he was sure of it...

the slow, disapproving tones of a man he had once known came to him, but taltos felt no guilt as he lifted a dripping muzzle and looked into scimitar's eyes. diplomacy would not feed donnelaith, nor his children -- he sensed that the alpha wished to mince words, but lasher did not.

nor did he wish to fight; his wolves had not yet arrived and he would not seek to claim the carcass alone. a pale flash alongside him brought a menacing snarl from the druid, but as the neverwinter wolves gathered, lasher determined not to remain. "scimitar. your mind is made," came his cool greeting, gaze sweeping the assembled wolves.

with that, he carved a large piece of flesh from the corpse, as big as he could carry, and began to back away in the direction of donnelaith, refusing to turn his back until it was evident he would not be followed. his quarrel was not with the man, but with the famine that made such brutes out of them all. his murkwater eyes were watchful.

With the intent to bargain with the swarthy wolf before him, the Neverwinter Alpha kept a cautionary gaze upon the Donnelaith regal. An ivory wolf came upon them as well – and Eshe had caught up to him. One ear would flicker in the direction of Goldhawk’s question, and his own muzzle jerked in the direction of the Gamma, giving an assertive shake of his head – they would not start the bloodshed upon the Donnelaith wolves – he had offered their peace once to the man who stood at the carcass now, and Scimitar meant to keep that word.

Lasher was quick to judge though – Scimitar would have corrected him, but the cool greeting was enough to stir further words from his voice. He did not make a move to stop the wolf from taking more of the kill – nor did he make move to advance after him.

When the ivory wolf lunged forward, the agouti Alpha released a snarl then – this was not a wolf who he would hold back from, and while it was likely the youth would make away with some meat, Scimitar made to lunge at the younger wolf’s side, his jaws seeking flesh to reprimand as the boy was busy trying to tear in to the carcass. His own nape arched in attempt to protect his throat, and a snarl snaked forward from his vocals, stirring spittle to drip from his mouth.

His family was hungry, and he had no quarrels putting a lone wolf in their place to keep those of his own pack alive.

Oopth, I'm slow. Kaertok is gonna GTFO.

Driven by hunger, Sungiwok was hit by Scimitar in his side, the teeth raking his flesh. But he wanted only a quick bite, a morsel of flesh from the downed creature. He got his wish, gulping down a decent-sized bit of muscle before tucking his tail and running away as quickly as he could. There was no sense in trying to fight a pack of wolves; even a starving wolf knew that was certain death. The gash in his side wasn't anything serious, and as blood stained his coat there, it also stained his jaws from where he had taken what he could from the corpse.

Eshe watched Lasher take what he could, and did not dispute it. Perhaps she would come to regret such a thing at a later date, but the man would not be able to carry the whole of the meal, which would belong to Neverwinter. Eshe snarled in turn with her mate toward the straggler, and snapped her teeth at them... but she did not engage as the other turned and went to leave. They would be the ones to profit from this.

Goldhawks question was regarded with the slow shake of her head, but she grinned at the proposition. Goldhawk was a great wolf; this day, there would be no need for a battle. As the others made to depart, Eshe moved nearer to their prize.

The gold chap was buzzing for a fight. He stood there, poisoned and itching, eyeing up the two strangers and prepping a snap at the less dominant one. But his Alphas denied Goldhawk the chance, and he respected that at once. Ahh it was a shame though. A fight and a meal? That would've been glorious.

But at least they got the meal, and Goldhawk remained a full pace behind his Lady and Lord as he waited for his turn, swallowing his appetite and eyeing the departing strangers before he eyed that sweet red meat.

With the youthful wolf taking a scrap and leaving, Scimitar did not attempt to chase him down further – it would only expend energy he required. Looking upon the carcass, his features were grim, despite the treasure that had fallen in to their lap. He had been of mind to share it with the Donnelaith wolf, but Lasher’s eager assumptions had instead left the remains to the Neverwinter Forest wolves.

He would invite Eshe forward first to consume her share – next, he and Goldhawk could partake. The remains would either be brought back to the pack, if enough, or the regal would howl for them to come – primarily @Kaskara. His pregnant sister would get her fill as well.
