Silver Moraine: Long ago, a glacier once stretched to encompass this patch of earth. It has since receded, leaving in its wake a trail of upturned soil and rock. Jagged groves are all that remain, forming a valley of subtle ridges and ruts along the bed of this former river of ice. Rocky and barren, this path has not yet recovered enough to host anymore life than the evergreens that line its edges. For now, this area remains a natural road leading into the northern territories.

During the night, a small herd of moose wandered into the taiga. They have since moved back out of this barren stretch of wilderness—but they left behind an unfortunate calf which broke one of its legs on the jagged terrain. It cries pitifully as it struggles along the glacial drift.

Charley's hunger was getting to him, and it finally drove him to travel South from the borders. He, not to mention Aspen and the wee pup Reek was harboring, needed prey. Without it, they would starve, and was that any way to end his relationship with the grey female?
Eventually, the quiet cries of a wounded animal reach his ears. No hesitation, the patched male galloped forward, saliva building in his throat at the thought of a fresh, hot meal. It takes him a while to find it, but when he does, it is alone, and the brute stalks forward with a grin on his face. The thing can barely even walk, and with snapping jaws and fast feet, Charley has it pinned and suffocating beneath his heavy frame.
What if someone else has heard the thing? Damn it all, he couldn't protect the kill AND fight off another predator! His only hope is to try and move it closer to home. Its a heavy thing, despite being small and thin, and Charley decides to call to @Reek and @Aspen with a howl instead of doing this alone. Perhaps they could help him, but until then he hovered over top the carcass.

Wildfire's head pounded as the sun streamed down from the clear May sky, the heat, humidity and hunger hammering into her skull. She did her best to ignore all of it, focusing on the fish swimming slowly in the shallows of the Qeya River. She remained motionless as she sat in wait, holding out for the perfect moment to make a strike. The odds were against her—her fishing skills hadn't improved much since her impromptu lesson with Sadie—but at least she wasn't expending any real energy by sitting here.

Despite her concentration, the distant cry caused the young hunter's head to jerk up immediately. She was on her feet before she could even think what the sound meant. She ran along the riverbank until it curved away to the north, Wildfire herself shooting like a bullet to the west. The bleating continued and every drop of blood in her veins sang in response, realizing what it most likely meant: meat!

When she spotted the struggling moose calf and identified the source of its misery, Wildfire's mouth flooded with saliva. But she bit her lip and froze, debating. Would it be foolish to go after such relatively large prey on her own? Yes, she answered herself. Then there was the treacherous terrain to consider. If Wildfire tried to go after the young moose, she would likely only get herself killed. But if she didn't eat soon, she would probably die anyway. What was better: a quick, bloody death or a slow death by starvation?

Before she could arrive at a decision, another factor complicated the matter—and possibly made the decision for her. A wolf rushed onto the scene, closing in quickly on the young and injured ungulate. Wildfire's breath hissed through her teeth as he made to pin the calf. Without really being aware of it, the Delta rushed forward, her instincts eclipsing her better judgment as she, too, made to fall upon the calf.

She hears the call, urgent and panicked, and Thuringwethil’s ears rush forward. The message is what has her attention, along with the scent of Wildfire in her path, that puts her feet into motion. The howl is unfamiliar to her but she knew the other packs in the area enough that the chances of it being a rival are high. It doesn’t slow her down, however, and when she catches sight of a flame of red not too far off, she chuffs her appearance as she swoops up next her—who isn’t there for long.

Soon, Thuringwethil finds what the commotion is about, as a crying calf shrieks in the distance and a wolf nearby she doesn’t recognize. A growl rolls in her throat and her eyes narrow, taking a long breath to try and find the scent of where he belongs but finds herself empty handed with the wind in the wrong direction. Her feet itching to hit the ground again, she puts forth her own call—urgent, should any of her own be in the area (@Dio, @Rebekka, @Hush, @Seregrýn, @Gluskap).

The dark leader hits the ground running in that moment, however, not for the prey the other wolf is after, and instead the actual wolf. His scent catches her nose then and a flash of anger catches her gaze as she charges and aims at the grotto wolf for the calf he protects.

It had only been a few hours since the returned from her travel, unsucessful in catching much. This had only concluded that the rest of the Teekon was as un-eventful as Drageda, or at least, nothing had sparked her interest enough for her to care. It did not mean she missed Trigeda. There were many reasons to leave, and more not to return. Rebekka did not do anything she regretted. But she needed work. It was in her genes, hollowed into her personality and soul. She needed to do something, and if she could not hunt she would find trouble for herself. However, that thought could not come quickly enough before a call rose up among the woods, outside Drageda territory. The Commander called for her. It was enough to have her sprinting to the scene, charged with the thirst to offer her use.

When she arrived, she was met with the familiar sighting of the flamed covered girl, Wildfire. But there was another she did not know. She did not like strangers, especially ones that were imposing on a kill claimed by the Heda herself. A feral snarl rose from her, though it was not of warning. She was done with warnings. Her ear still bloodied and torn, she launches herself at the stranger's form standing triumpantly above the meal. It only takes her a second to change targets after Heda forces her own hand upon the male. Instead, Rebekka ducks down, aiming to grab a part of the calf in her own jaws from underneath the male. The stranger cannot hold off two opposing attacks. Life, or the meal.

Two noises dragged him from his scavenging into the fray: the moose's bleating, angusihed call, and his Heda's summons. Hush rose curiously at the first, then lunged into action at the second. The chance to acquire food was on his mind first, but when Heda called him to action, it became more than that. It was a battle now, to survive, rather than wanton scavenging.

He was not the only wolf to heed his Queen's call. Wildfire, the little red wolf he met before, and another unknown female answered, both congealing around the moose calf and its claimant. He snarled, lunging forth to attack the wolf's neck and head, intent on battering the wolf to the point where retreat would be the only safe option.

The commander's howl has him swift into motion, and it's big, eager strides that carry him forth. His watch has been uneventful and hunger remains a constant companion, so, he's ready to change that if he's able.

He arrives as the fourth Dragon upon the scene after Hush. Dio casts the unknown wolf the most fleeting of glances before he descends unquestionably, a momentum and teeth first for the wolf's shoulder, scruff, or otherwise. Heda and the coywolf rally him already (so he's prepared to adjust as he either defends, attacks back, or flees), while it seemed the two other pack mates worked to secure the prize here.

The hot spring sun beat down on the brute's back as he lounged in the sun. Suddenly, the bleating of a wounded animal hit his ears. He jerked his head up immediately, his heart raced and stomach screaming. He knew exactly what that sound meant, and he wanted it. He wanted it not only for himself but for his pack members. Vuk and Seff needed it... Reek needed it. Everyone needed it.

Before his brain could proccess what was happening, his was on his feet and racing towards the sound. The pitiful cries carried on until Zaavier was close enough to smell the thing. It was moose.. perhaps a calf at the sound of it. More scents flooded to his nose. Sleeping Dragon! His teeth clacked in frustration as the calf's sound became more urgent. Wolves were attacking it. He needed to get there fast!

He reached the scene just as Charley finished off the animal. To his relief, he called for more Grotto wolves. Then, his heart began to race again as a random wolf -- probably a Dragon member -- leapt upon the moose, then another. Soon, more wolves of the same scent were upon Charley and his prey. Ears pinned and hackles raised. He didn't kow what to do! His lips curled back in display towards the other wolves. At the moment, the two were out numbered. There was no way for Zaavier to get in the middle of it. That would just get him killed. He raised his head and called out to not only Reek but @Skeet and @Jhala too.

There was a call on the wind – one that seemed to turn the attention of the slender coywolf male. His tongue lolled from his mouth and his sharp eyes were cast in the direction of the summons. The dark female’s voice had become familiar to him. Still, the lithe creature paused in his trek. Were it not for the interest that struck him, he would have found reason to turn away from the call. Instead, the lean legs of the wolf allowed for Gluskap to spring himself on the location. Instantly, his dark lips curled in delight at the utter chaos that was taking place around a crippled moose calf. Two strangers and a flock of Dragons.

The coywolf darted forward, his head low, and managed to catch sight of the other wolves who were attempting to call for assistance. To keep them off of the prey animal was the only goal. His wicked yellow eyes locked on the shape of @Zaavier and he lunged in an attempt to latch his fangs on anything he could grasp. The hunger in his gut fueled his fury.

It wasn't long before others showed, and seconds later he had his jaws locked around the things throat. Only one of his own had come so far, but the male was convinced this was most of another. At once, what he assumed was the alpha, rushed for him. He was forced to let go, attempting to stand on it to keep his claim while snapping his jaws for the face of the dark female.
She and the others backed him off a few steps, and heat flashed through his face in the form of a gash, blossoming across his cheek. Charley finally snapped back at the dark alpha who'd landed the hit, aiming for her face and hoping to duck to the side before getting hit again whether his teeth connected or not. Dancing to the side, the Pryor twin tried using the only option left of getting food other than fighting for it.
This was neutral territory, and he'd caught it: but unless Reek showed up to help him out there would be no way he could keep the calf.
           "We can split it!"
Perhaps they could each take a part? Much as it burned him to even offer, at least they would all survive a little longer. More wolves were arising and the patchy male could only hope his packmates came soon.

A guttural snarl vibrated in her throat as Wildfire's teeth latched onto the dying (or dead) calf's haunch. She didn't even bother with trying to drag it to the ground or tug it out of the other wolf's grasp. Instead, the yearling bit down with all her might, then jerked her head to the side. She ripped the hot flesh right off the bone, a whole, bloody mouthful of it. When she fell back—nearly losing her footing—she rapidly swallowed. The hunk of meat throbbed down her throat and, unthinkingly, the she-wolf sprang in for more. Her brain had gone offline, feral instincts taking over and turning Wildfire into a shark in bloody water.

She was dimly aware of other wolves arriving, growls and snaps echoing around her, but she intended to ignore them as she fed, taking what she could get until something or other forced her away. But then she recognized a particular scent in the melee. In the middle of attempting to tear another morsel off the ungulate's shank, she released her grip and straightened, turning her head to watch the dark commander attack an unfamiliar wolf, alongside some of Drageda's finest. Wildfire's lips snaked back in a defensive grimace and she resumed her butchery (unless otherwise interrupted), now intent on pulling off a morsel for the battle-ready Heda. She would need it after she surely slew he who dared tried to stand against the dragons.

It isn't long before the rest of her wolves show up but she hardly notices them. Hush and Dio come into view, followed by another wolf she doesn't recognize, but by then she's backed the first male off the kill and connected with flesh. The taste of blood reminds her of her purpose, but not before she's received her backlash. Her nose stings but she scarcely blinks as she retaliates, stepping closer to protect the kill for the dragons. She easily leaves the wound, a gash down the left side of her snout, for later. Wildfire's feast goes unnoticed, and Rekkea has pulled the calf back enough into their possession.

He stammers some kind of alternative, something fair but their scent reminds her nothing except Reek's betrayal. Had he been smart, and accepted the coalition, her approach would likely be far different and the male would be own of her own. However, separated by enemy tension on neutral territory leaves everything else fair game. Thuringwethil does not advance for the male again for fear of potentially losing it, even if the others had devoured it by then. Six to two, the odds are in their favor with enough snapping jaws to keep the grotto wolves away.

"If you do not run," she growls, teeth and fur staining with blood, a mix of her own and his, "you will be our next meal."

They push the Grotto wolf back from the kill initially. The stranger and Heda clashed in full and Dio maintains his own rally, pressuring him with snapping teeth and a closeness that doesn't give him too many directions to flee in should he decide that to be route. Instead, he offers splitting it and the golden mercenary only barely manages to hold the scoff back by barred teeth. So outnumbered like this, his chances are slim.. even with the single reinforcement here on the edges of his periphery, calling for others who may not even come. Meanwhile, the Dragon is here now, and in force while time ticks onward.

He keeps the Heda in his sights and snarls darkly to punctuate her words for the Larksong male. She was generous enough to give him the choice to leave, so now he waits for the Grotto to make their move one way or another. He is poised and ready to lunge.

Zaavier's hackles raised in frustration. There was no way for them winning this fight. It was six to two now. Suddenly, a force that the lanky brute didn't expect hit him full on, barreling the boy over and knocking the wind out of him. Pain shot through his shoulder as fangs met his flesh and he cried out in rage. Baring his teeth, Zaavier snapped in the air, hopefully to at some point close upon his attacker's flesh.

He struggled to free himself of this wolf's grasp as he heard one of the Dragon wolves warn Charley to leave. His stomach twisted in frustration and hunger, but Zaavier was no fool. There was no way the two of them could win against these wolves. "Charley, back down." He coughed to his packmate. His voice was stern. He didn't want himself or his friend to get hurt more than they already have. He snapped at Gluskap's paws in attempt to close on a paw. Hopefully that would get his idiot off.

Obviously, he was backed into a corner. The grotto wolves would not be getting the calf, that was sure, but Charley was intent on bringing something back for Aspen. He knows nothing of these wolves, not their pack or their proximity, and surely not anything Reek has done. So, taking the chance, Charley dives in and latches onto the leg of a calf, tearing and ripping as fast as he can. Likely, he's going to earn more wounds, but to him they're worth it. He needed to eat, ASPEN needed to eat, and there was a pup needing food back at home; failure wasn't a damn option here, not when food was RIGHT there. Already angry from losing HIS kill, the patchy male WILL get at least part of it. Once hes ripped the leg from the dead calf, making sure its clamped firmly in his jaws, adrenaline blocking out any pain that has been caused, the brute breaks away towards the grotto. Zaavier gets a semi-worried glance, but Charley does not stop. When they meet up later, he'll be sure the lanky male gets some of the food: but there was no stopping when six angry wolves were possibly on his ass. Normally, he would stop and fight, even overwhelmed as they were, but the famine has left him to weak for his usual heroics. He does his best to call to his friend without slowing, dearly wishing to rip into the pelt of the one who was on him.
        "Zaavier, lets go!"

Assuming this is okay, leaving him open to attack and dont care who hurts him as long as its not fatal. My last post here :x

By the time the Delta tore loose a pulpy strip of meat intended for the Heda, the two outsiders were fleeing the scene. Wildfire narrowed her eyes as she watched them make their hasty exit, then turned to look at the other Drageda wolves. Grasping the hunk of flesh in her mouth, she padded over to the commander, head lowered. Of course, the Alpha female could and would take command of the kill. Wildfire still nudged the offering in her direction before backing off to the side, partially as an apology for technically eating out of turn. Licking her lips, she restrained her baser instincts as she waited for the real feeding frenzy to begin.

She can still hear a few snaps of teeth between the other wolves but for the time being everything is maintained in their possession. Thuringwethil shifts forward to cover the entire that so much as a wrong look at it will end in a fatal blow for the canine too. The face off doesn't last long, though, before @Charley Pryor and @Zaavier begin their retreat.

"Tell Reek Heda sends her regards," she sneers after them, unsure if they heard her at all. Just the joy alone he might get the message is enough to satisfy her and she wishes to be a fly against a wall when he learns of this.

Once they are nothing more than specks in the distance, she turns to assess the kill. Wildfire has already taken her part in the crossfire and pulled another piece she has set aside for her. Her jaw tightens and she looks at the rest of them at the calf at their paws. It is not enough to feed the lot of them as they need to but they can fill their bellies enough to take the edge off.

"Eat," she tells them, then turns to Wildfire and the morsel she pulled away, "take that back to Gyda." It would be the only thing they return with this day.

Thuringwethil turns back to the carcass and the anticipating wolves, her own gesture clear for them to begin once she breaks the belly of the calf. Blood soaks through her muzzle as she digs for nutrient filled and mineral rich internal organs to fill her belly, occasionally flicking her gaze around them for further threats.

The Delta's mouth continued to water as she awaited further instruction. When Thuringwethil turned toward her, her ears flicked forward in anticipation as she readied herself for action. The order surprised her somewhat, though it did make perfect sense. Wildfire drew in a breath, nodding obediently and moving forward to gather the hunk of meat. She had hoped to eat some more herself, yet her sense of duty took precedence over her hunger. And Gyda needed the sustenance perhaps more than any of them, considering she was expecting pups in a few weeks.

It was massively difficult to turn her back on the kill, especially when the Heda laid it open and the air filled with the scent of blood. But Wildfire dug her heels into the earth and galloped away from the moraine, reminding herself with every pounding heartbeat and footfall not to swallow the important cargo she carried, no matter how tempting. Somehow, she made it to @Gyda's den and deposited it before reluctantly moving off to resume her vigil beside the river. She was still hungry, yet a feeling of accomplishment filled in some of the empty spaces.

The attempt to knock the other wolf over was something of a success. Gluskap scuffled with the stranger for a moment before the two wolves were swallowed in the fire that seemed to come from the dragons. The prey was theirs. The coywolf male turned away from the retreating figures of the other wolves. The blood and sinew of the moose was drawing him forward until he had buried his muzzle deep in the meat and was tearing away what he could with a sense of madness. The famine had been enough to drive them all to this point. The only concern the pack had faced had been swiftly frightened away from the chance for food. Gluska’s respect for the dark-furred leader was growing. She was showing her strength as an Alpha. He believed she was more than capable of tending to her brood. So he ate without care for the starvation of the other wolves. The fierce would weed out the weak.

While it may have been the Grotto wolf's kill in the beginning, the scales tipped in favor of the Dragon readily with the deal sealing at the sight of their retreat. Only once they were long gone over the visible horizon did he dial it back, easing into a more tempered stance. Now, they had a meal at their disposal so his attention turned readily towards the prospect of something in his belly -- even if the primary concern was meant to be his leaders, namely the gravid Gyda back home.

The golden mercenary was mindful of his place first and foremost, but protective of his standing among them when necessary. His mismatched eyes studied the Heda and only once her signals suggested they join her did he move upon the kill to section off his own portion, which he devoured immediately.

She had not doubted Hedas tribe would not succumb to defeat, and certianly not against two strange looking wolves who's pack did not bother to come to their side. But that, was to their benefit. Rebekka did had not hesitated to snap the elk's leg in her jaws, yanking it away from under the male as he retreated, calling the other with him. However, she did not hold on for long as Heda claimed their prize, but not before tearning a peice away to give to a Gyda. What was a Gyda?, the yearling wondered. It had slipped her mind, the name of the second Alpha, but at that second it was not of high importance to her, selfishly so. Thinking no more of it, she in turn took her share, savouring every last taste as it would come only once.

Rebekka's respect for the Commander was growing, not just because of her title, but as an Alpha. Her power, influence, it was the things to envy yet Rebekka did not. She only wished one day to be like her, intimidating yet fair. She could never be half as kind as Thuringwethil was, but she was still learning. And learn, she would do.

Thuringwethil doesn’t notice Wildfire has disappeared upon her request when she breaks into the deer, tearing away bits and eating as much as she can while the rest of her wolves take parts around her. Occasionally, she growls when one gets too close to her portion but between her and the four other wolves there is bound to be a little tussle between them and who gets what. The wound on her nose goes disregarded for the time being and when she has nothing else in her reach but tattered bowels and shards of bones, she finally pulls away.

It is the most her stomach has felt this full in weeks and sure she could take more, there isn’t much left when the dragons finish. She licks around her muzzle, tasting blood but not caring the source, and takes a step back while the rest of them pick the carcass clean. The young leader looks around at those eating and notices Wildfire had gone and a frown forms on her features that she hadn’t gotten more than when she started. A twist of her lips form but she shakes it off and looks upon the rest of them while they finish and they can return to their home in satisfaction.

More wolves arrived, led to the carcass like flies to a...carcass (good job, Hush). More from Drageda arrived, effectively claiming the meat as their own by sheer numbers alone, but the Sancutary wolves still retaliated. One even offered to split the carcass, but Hush knew that that wasn't an option, not in this situation. The two wolves fled, and the Drageda wolves feasted.

Hush ate as much as he thought he needed, never bothering to seek out the choice cuts, stripping meat and cartilage alike from the calf's bones as he filled his stomach. Remembering Wildfire's mishap, he slowed down his pace, eventually finishing his meager, yet satisfying meal. Wildfire was sent to give food to Gyda, and Hush followed, if only to protect the fire-clad girl from any other scavengers, then splitting off when the food was successfully delivered, to find a place to digest his meal.

The weight of a real meal in this stomach feels unfamiliar at first, but satisfaction soon follows and he is content with this kill in light of the famine keeping things slim. He eats his own fill and looms nearby as the rest of the pack takes their pieces. Even while they finish, he surveys the area to ensure they may do so undisturbed by their lesser rivals. But, it stays quiet. They go unchallenged and this is a success for them, cleanly so.

When the time is right and all is concluded here, he helps in toting any parts of the carcass that remain back to the Dragon.
