Cai had been wandering for many months after leaving her birth pack. The weight of her sorrow was much lighter than it had been initially but it had been nearly that long since she'd seen another wolf. So when she caught the faint scent of another wolf's marking she first felt excitement. The fear of how her arrival would be treated was the secondary and overpowering emotion. She had eaten recently, but was fatigued and thirsty. She slowed her pace to a saunter so as to soften the sound of her paws on the forest floor, both to make herself more hidden from observers and to minimize noise that might distract from her own observations. If she were to come across a wolf, she wanted to see them first. This was her hope as she trod onward.

Since you didn't say otherwise, I'm going to assume that they're right outside of the lair/not in the territory itself. ^^

There were signs of life at last. Nothing great enough to begin luring in the herds, but it was a start, and the young leader had felt a surge of joy go through her body the moment she'd spotted the first patch of grass. It was small, still, but she felt happy nevertheless. It was often that she patrolled the inner reaches of the territory, looking at the barren trees and overall lifeless appearance. Yet, that day had held the moment in which she'd spotted the little patch of thin greenery, and she'd been inspired to travel out beyond her claim. If she could find more grass out in unclaimed lands, then surely that would mean that the life was returning to the wilds. That is wasn't a mere fluke, a result of her doings, but an event brought on by the gentle hand of nature herself. Thus, she'd gone forward, trekking through the lair before crossing the scent markers that declared the lair as being home to the tribe. She'd gone beyond it all, but not so far that she could no longer see her home. The girl remained within hearing distance, attentive and listening in at all times on the off chance that she'd be needed. As she progressed, however, the scent of another wolf eventually reached her nose.

Asterr had paused, growing still as her nose was pointed up towards the incoming wave of air. The wolf was a female, possibly alone—though that was something she could not be sure of, as there existed plenty of packs whose scents she neither knew nor could recognize—and moving towards her. Each gust brought with it a stronger version of the same scent, informing her that the space between them was lessening, but for how long it might take to be closed entirely was something that she could not figure out. It depended on the stranger, her health and pace, which were things the chieftess knew nothing of. Curious, yet, she did not contribute towards the act of decreasing the distance left between them, having decided to remain right where she had stopped for the time being. Pale eyes scanned the area ahead of her, attentive of what may be coming, for she wished not to miss sight of the stranger. If they turned out to be a threat to either herself or her tribe, she would ensure she knew beforehand.

Excitement swelled within Cai. At last she would no longer be alone! Perhaps this territory she was approaching belonged to wolves who she could consider her pack. Her heart sank as she remembered her former pack, her birth pack. At the time she left things had been ugly. The dispute over who should be the new alpha had torn the pack apart and Cai had opted out of witnessing the aftermath. She hoped these new wolves, who ever they were, might welcome her, and if they did that they would have a firmer sense of who their leaders were. She did not seek a position of power, just a sense of certainty. A scent filled her nostrils, indicating another wolf was nearby - not to far ahead of herself. The scent was of a very powerful female, perhaps the beta or even the alpha of the pack. Cai hesitated. Would this wolf be hostile or welcoming? Her stomach growled, reminding her she didn't have much choice. She was a decent hunter, but could not catch large game on her own. Her nomadic lifestyle kept her from being able to save much food. She needed a pack. She wanted a pack. She had to take the risk. She followed the scent as it grew stronger, until she saw in the distance what might be a wolf. She lowered her head slightly to indicate her submissive nature and cautiously trod onward.

All the while that she had stood there, the girl was quiet. Even her breathing had seemed to grow no louder than that of a mouse, evenly spaced and flowing smoothly to a fro her lungs. She could not bring herself to move, for to walk back would be fleeing, and to walk forward would be running straight into a potentially dangerous situation. Thus, she'd kept herself still, as doing so was the lesser of evils, and allowed herself to have the slightest of advantages. She was aware that someone was moving towards her, but had they noticed the same thing? One could not tell from such a great distance away, and never would she make a move to ask even if she were to speak with the wandering soul—which, to her surprise, had revealed themselves no too long after the thought had crossed her mind. The female had lowered her head, showing no indications that might mean a threat was coming. Rather, she'd showed submission, even from such a long ways off, and had proceeded to move forward even after having done so. Still, the yearling did not budge, staying in place and letting the other approach until she'd felt they were close enough to one another.

"Stop there," Asterr had commanded once only a few meters remained between them, eyes paying close attention to the unknown wolf. "State your reasoning for having wandered so close to my home." It was a simple request, being one that was often asked by her. Only after it had been answered would she proceed with the conversation, for the current situation did not provide enough of insight for her to carry on with.

Avannon trotted forward stopping right behind Asterr and looking at the female who had arrived. Her blue eyes went from Asterr to the strange dame, before she sat down remaining silent. She didnt know if she was supposed to be here, but surely her presence couldn't harm the situation. The ghostly hued female settled down on her paws, tucking them slightly underneath her chest, looking like a rather large cat. her tail remained straight out behind her, significantly lower than Asterr's but higher than the lone dame's.

Tacking a short ending onto this. PP of inactive character.

Though a request had been made, the lone wolf hadn't seemed overly interested in responding. Rather, the stranger had fallen silent—perhaps they'd been spooked, the dragoness hadn't been able to tell—and then departed Asterr had not pursued the being, for her course had been set in the direction opposite of the tribe's home. Satisfied, Asterr had turned away and returned to the lair, leaving Avannon to do as she pleased.
