His quip didn't seem to be appreciated -- in fact, it served only to startle the she-wolf. He hadn't realized that she wasn't aware of his presence, and he gasped audibly as she suddenly began to flounder in the water. Fearing for her life -- especially because it would be his stupid fault if she drowned -- he bounded into the shallows, sending up a splash with his paws.

But she resurfaced a second later and, although she appeared to be short of breath, she managed to paddle herself to the shore. Floki paused where he stood, the lakewater lapping around his ankles, and watched as she threw herself down onto the beach, coughing and sputtering. His ears fell to either side and he crept towards her, though he halted a few feet away.

"Sorry...are you okay?" he asked hesitantly. He was embarrassed, but he was sure she felt worse.
