He didn't miss the subtle rumble of her belly, and realized that he too might need to start looking for a meal if he wanted to eat before the night came. She hid her tiredness well, for he didn't notice it on her. Perhaps it was her interest in him, in their conversation. He smirked, already knowing her answer, and rolling his eyes at the 'just might' statement.

"You'd have no choice. If I lingered near the borders just to meet with you, you'd be incredibly rude to ignore me." He gave her a look that was matter-of-fact, both brows raised in a 'what can you do' fashion. He stood then and shook himself. His fur was nearly dry after their run and their conversation, only the tips remained wet. "I think we must part for now, sadly. I have wasted much of your day, or made it worthwhile, whichever fits." He offered another roguish smile. "Perhaps the next time we meet we can do so as packmates. Mention me to Spring, if you get the chance. Talk me up." He winked at her, knowing her silver tongue and quick wit would be good for the job. Although she could just as easily slice him down.
Sometimes you just have to throw on a crown and show them who they're dealing with.

He made a good point: it would be very rude of her to ignore his efforts to see her.  He knew she was right, too: his expression said it all, even as nonchalant as he acted. Amber scoffed jokingly, rolling her eyes and shaking her head, but grinning the entire time.
"Suppose you've got me there, but I've already admitted to some fondess of you or I wouldn't come all the way out here."
Her inky fur was dry to any others eye, but she could feel the dampness closer to her skin, knowing she'd need to bathe later or her thick pelt would matt. Hestons voice broke through brief thoughts, and a frown came over her face. Alas, he was right, it was time for her to go home, eat, and eventually sleep. Unfortunatley, he could not join her, much as she wanted to ask him to. His charming smile melted her heart and drew forth a giggle, and she nodded.
"I can do that for you, too, I guess."
Her gaze softened, if it was possible, and she reached out to rub against his shoulder with a wink of her own before turning and trotting back home. Her hips swayed and her feathery tail waved high above her, prideful in her success of... Well, who knows, but she sure was happy with the time she'd spent with Heston.

She had admitted to a fondness for him, but who could resist? He had a lovely face and the conversation and wit to go along with it. She frowned as he mentioned they must part ways, and he felt much the same. Much as he'd like to saunter back into the pack lands and escort her to her den (for gentlemanly purposes, nothing untoward!), he could not. He smiled at again at her as she said she would throw in a good word for him to Spring. "I'm glad to hear it. I'll be pestering you at your den, next thing you know." A glint of mischief lit his eyes, teeth flashing in a grin.

She reached out for him and he stepped forward to meet her, their shoulders brushing. He lightly touched his nose to the bottom of her ear for less than a second before pulling away. It was a teasing gesture, soft and light, had he actually touched her or had she imagined it? He smirked after her as she went, watching her go as he knew he was supposed to. He stood still, watching her shape shrink on the horizon until she was no more. Before she could go further he lifted his muzzle to the sky and sang a single note of farewell, one last parting gesture that he was sure she'd appreciate.

He turned and headed for his own den for a rest before he hunt. Though his belly was empty he was quite sated as far as conversation was concerned, Amber had been good company indeed and he looked forward to their next meeting.
