She swooned and collapsed the half-inch to the floor, and the impact of that jarred her awake once more. Her fainting spell, though brief, was the first of many lessons that would require reiteration, but would ultimately remain with her throughout life: the head was a vulnerable place to hit.

Prialux sucked in a breath of air and prepared herself to wail again, but just then, someone settled near her and pulled her close.
