She wants to scream and shake and throw him around but she remains still, knowing none of those will give her any relief. If they hadn’t been playing this stupid game, if she’d just been able to find him, they’d be together again. A whimper lodges in her throat and cracks her voice, a hoarse cry escaping her lips. It is only when Hvitserk nudges her that she jerks, hissing into the nook of her brother’s shoulder, before turning around to swat him away.

“Help what?” she cries, turning back over to bury herself alongside her brother’s body. There isn’t an ounce of heat left. How long had he suffered, if at all? Did he cry and call for her? Her mouth opens for an inaudible cry and her body violently heaves in a fit tears.
