Her answer did not surprise him. He had assumed as much. There were ways to tell in which one had never been intimate with another before just as there were ways to tell in which one was experienced. He didn't comment upon her admittance. It didn't matter if he was her first or her sixth. It wasn't really any of his business. He had made the assumption because her words had implied that it had been so. Her question caused him to look away for a few moments, towards the calm sea, contemplating. What a weighty question. It wasn't like he had ever really thought about it before. It was a bit late to ask that question now, wasn't it? Regardless, he knew he would couple with her again during her estrus cycle if she let him. So whether he wanted children or not ceased to matter. Unless one of them was infertile which he seriously doubted they would end up with children. Thinking of himself as a father was a strange thought. He might have a bastard kid running around when Potema (though he did not know her name) gave birth — he might not. She had smelled of others before he had taken her. “I never really thought about it.” Kjalarr admitted to her. “but I can promise you that I'm not going to abandon you or the children that may come of this.” There wasn't much of Kjalarr that was good — his family hated him, except for Floki. He had done things that men with morals would have died before doing. Kjalarr did not abandon responsibilities and Ondine and their possible children were his responsibility. This had not been planned, Ondine was not his mate but that did not make him any less responsible for them and the viking fully intended to own up to it. If he had a bastard child out there ...it could not be helped but he could try to do right by Ondine and his children that she might carry.
