They came to him one by one, but to Tetsubo they were each suddenly there, and then some were not. They drifted. He drifted, and nearly came back to the earth were it not for Skellige's presence. The support he offered was just enough to keep the burly creature standing. His limbs shook regardless, and he panted openly, his tongue dry and throat rumbling with vague, incoherent sounds.

There was a ghost. She was there, she wasn't — and then there was a shadow, and she made motion as if to reach for his throat. Tetsubo, having lost a lot of blood and having not eaten in some time, saw this as the nether come to reclaim him. Perhaps to strip him down to pieces and rebuild? He did not want that. He felt Doe's tongue begin to administer the tender care upon his wound and he pulled away violently, baring his fangs at the air, his eyes wild as he recoiled and then, like a turtle retreating to its own husk of a shell, he covered his throat and filled the air with a whistling, wet warning.
