Neverwinter Forest in the unknown

All Welcome
Hoping for @Cypress, @Szabala, @Rian, and/or @Arrille :)

Eimear was, well, bored. Neverwinter Forest was boring to the young girl. Don't misunderstand; she loved the pack and all its inhabitants, but sometimes the forest felt constricting. So the dark furred girl walked along the stretch of dry stream bed, kicking rocks into the tiny puddles that still managed to remain. Something had to give, right? She needed to do something, and do it now, otherwise she might find herself in a world of trouble.

So she threw back her head and called for the youth of the pack - her siblings and cousins and Arrille (how were they related, again?) - and hoped they'd answer her soon. She wanted to stir up some excitement for them all.

Having spent most of the day lying on a bed of sodden earth watching a herd of deer as they clustered around the new growth in the eastern reaches of the pack, Rian was glad for the distraction the howl brought. The herd snorted, unsettled by the sound of the predator, but ignorant that he'd been lurking near them the entire day. So when he stood, they scattered, tails flashing and heels kicking high into the air as if to say try me, wolf. He ignored them as they dispersed into the thicket and shook out his pelt with a sigh only to head off in pursuit of his sibling.

It didn't take long to find her, standing near a dry stream, cloaked in summer sunshine and taupe. He approached with little aplomb and extended his neck to nose her cheek with a few quick waves of his tail. Though he held the rank of Gamma, he did not impose it on his family, at least not yet. The instinctual urge was there, a dark spot digging and prying at the back of his skull—he wanted to cement his role as the provider and the leader, but he was neither. Just a parasite living off the emotions of others.

He chuffed warmly and mouthed at her nape in a half-hearted attempt at play.

It was in the midst of lounging that Eimear's call carried to the girl that was nearly a yearling. She sprawled in a splash of sunlight, soaking in the warmth the sun provided. At first, she did not make a move to meet her sister, and instead, she lingered, enjoying the last bits of warmth before making her way to the dry stream bed where her sister called for.

When she eventually did push herself off of the ground, Szabala slunk into the shadows, heading in the direction where her earth-coated sibling called from. Surprisingly, it did not take her long to arrive onto the scene. Watching her siblings from a distance, she rushed to embrace them both, whining happily as her tail whipped to and fro. Briefly, she touched her nose to both of their cheeks before stepping back with shining eyes. "Wot's up?" she chirped, an evident tone of curiosity woven into her light tone.

On the outskirts of the small gathering, the shadows seemed to gather and coalesce into the shape of a young wolf, ill at ease and unkempt. Cypress, incongruously both the youngest and the tallest of the four, watched his cousins twine themselves into a triquetra of their own making. It was incomplete — @Dublin would have fashioned the last corner of their quaternary Celtic knot — but intimidating nonetheless for the stygian eidolon who could claim no wolf as purely his own. His chin trembled as he emerged from the shadows and his sulphureous gaze was furtive and avoidant, but his tail whisked in a perfunctory way to show his willingness to socialize — even though it was evident that he was colossally uncomfortable. Wild, dark hackles quivered slightly, betraying his unease, but he did his best to put as much confidence as he could muster into his quiet baritenor, greeting his cousins in turn: “Hey, Rian. Hey, Eimear and Szabala.”

Eimear barked with glee when her brother Rian appeared, and twined herself around him, returning his attempts at play by nibbling on his ears. Then Szabala arrived and she bounded over to her sister, laughing warmly and planting slobbery kisses all over her face. I'm boooooored! she whined, shaking out her fur in a swift movement. Then Cypress arrived, and she chirruped happily, Cousin! Come play. We're bored! She lumped her siblings into her own boredom, but she was sure that they were bored too. How could they not be?

Now all they were missing were @Dublin and @Arrille. Perhaps they'd show up in a bit. We gotta find something fun to do, or else I might die. Overly dramatic much? That was Eimear. Have you guys done anything fun lately? Found any cool spots to explore? Eimear's tail thumped against the dry stream bed as her gaze traveled from her siblings to their cousin and back.

Rian ducked his head away from her retaliation, narrowly avoiding the bite of her teeth on the tender flesh of his ear. He danced away and stooped into a bow, paws outstretched, and smacked the ground to goad her further. But he was stopped by the arrival of Szabala and his cousin—the shadow called Cypress. The O'Malley boy swung his square-set dome around to each figure in turn, faintly wondering where Dublin was, and if he, too, would make an appearance.

The presence of Cypress reminded him of their conversation and he suddenly felt very ill-at-ease between his sisters. He hadn't brought up his thoughts with anyone but Cypress, and kept them conveniently tucked away into the darker recesses of his heart. They couldn't know; not until he knew they were willing to put almost everything they had on the line for the chance at something greater than what Neverwinter could offer them. Rian looked across the distance to the raven boy and, briefly, pressed his lips together before they parted in a warm smile.

Eimear drew his attention and he plodded over to stand beside her once more. "Kjalarr showed me the hot springs to the northwest during the blizzard..." Rian supplied helpfully while motioning in the proper direction. "They might be more accessible now?"

Skipping Szabala with permission!

“Cousin! Come play.”

Cypress’ ears shot forward upon his skull, but there was still an air of uncertainty in the way he slunk closer, his spine serpentine and boneless as he edged nearer and fought down a wave of anxiety so great he thought he might drown. “Me, too,” he parroted like an idiot. “I’m — bored.” I mean, he wasn’t — but he didn’t want to be different. If his cousins were bored, he wanted to be just as bored.

“Have you guys done anything fun lately?” Eimear asked, and the eidolon’s thoughts flashed immediately to Alya and her mountain, but he wasn’t about to say anything about that. Mutely he shook his head so that he would not have to speak the lie, pressing his lips together as he looked to Rian for direction. “What’s a hot spring?” he asked, a curl of jealousy twisting in his chest that Kjalarr had taken Rian instead of Cypress. It faded quickly, though — he was more interested in reintegrating himself with his cousins. “Anything you want to do…” he started strong, but trailed off. Was he talking too much? Did he sound stupid? Did they even want their younger cousin tagging along, or was this strictly a sibling thing?

“I can come, too — right?” he asked a little awkwardly.

As it turned out, though, nobody ended up going anywhere. Kaskara sent up a summoning howl for her children, and Cypress returned to his swamp like the curmudgeon he was.
