Kieran listened to Grayday intently, drilling the instructions into his brain. He wanted to get this right. He wanted to show them he could be useful! He didn't honestly feel like he had something to prove, but he wanted to. He wanted to show them. This - hunting - also sounded fun, and he was more than willing to give it ago. Perhaps it might become a passion of his. That would be nice. Besides, even if it didn't turn out to be something he enjoyed, he would have knowledge of how to do it. The pack needed food, so even if he didn't like it he would do it. For the pack.

Once Grayday finished explaining, the Watcher nodded, turning back to where the prey unmistakably was. He waited a moment, then saw some movement. He crawled closer, tongue sticking out in concentration. Then, when he believed the time was right, he leapt forward. The boy landed on a big feathery creature, and for a moment Kieran was so startled by it's appearance (it was like nothing he'd ever seen!) that he completely lost focus and fell flat on his face as the bird began to flee, but luckily for him he recovered quickly. He surged forward, filled with a strong determination - he would catch this! He would do it!

He managed to get close enough to the Pheasant to be able to pounce again, and he did so, but landed awkwardly on it's rear end. Eyes narrowing, the boy pushed as hard as he could, making the bird lose balance and topple over - Kieran fell too. Neither were very graceful. Before the pheasant could get away again, Kieran grabbed it's legs with his teeth and bit as hard as he could. There were squawks, but the boy pressed on, finally releasing. He grimaced as he looked at the poor creature, unable to run, and leaned over to bite it's life without much hesitation. He did not want to keep it in pain for a long time. He beamed then, turning back to look at the adults with a gleam in his eye. He had done it! It had not been very spectacular to watch, certainly not graceful, but he had done it.
