All Welcome
watch a meteor shower(may 6th) w moonspears finest redleaf-disarrino ;)

the moon was almost full. terance kept track of it every clear-skied night he could. it used to help with tides, so when his family settled on the beach they could watch the moon and see exactly where they should set up camp. on the mountain, away from the sea, it wasn't as useful, but terance found it was a good way to wind down for the night. today, he'd stayed up later doing a bit of extra territory mapping. by now, he'd gotten most of it down to memory-- but it didn't hurt to keep exploring. a consequence of this, however, was that it was well past midnight when he'd decided to do some moon tracking.

he sat and studied it with a curious tilt of his head. it was certainly almost full, and he couldn't wait for it to be completely full. it was just so gorgeous-- not tonight though, and he was patient enough to wait. but, as he stared, he realized that one of the stars had just moved. his ears perked, a bit surprised, before he realized with great joy that many stars were moving-- it was a meteor shower! the last one he'd seen was months ago, when he'd stayed up late with his mother to stargaze together. it was fantastic-- even better than a full moon.

She hadn't met Terance since meeting him first within the glade, but she knew quite a deal about him. Hydra brought him up occasionally whenever they were together — which was most of the time — and mentioned that he had joined their ranks. Lyra was in slight disbelief, really, suddenly bashful and embarrassed by his decision. Selfishly, she wondered if he knew she was from here and had followed her? She was oblivious to the fact that it was because of his family connection to Charon and instead indulged in her girlish fantasies.

It was a night similar to when they had first met that she came across his scent yet again. This time, though, she didn't flee from it. She was feeling brave, and both Hydra and Alya had encouraged her to go talk to him again. She felt blood rush to her cheeks but she pushed away the nerves, following his earthy scent all the way up a mountain trail.

She eventually found the dark boy staring at the sky — he really was an astronomer — and quietly slunk up behind him, slipping into a mix of her sister's personas. Her eyes flashed mischievously and she tried to get as close to his side as possible before cheekily whispering, "hi!" She hadn't even noticed the phenomena taking place in the night sky.

for roughly the millionth time, terance had been unaware of the silent shadow that had approached him. he sat, mesmerized by the sky, not bothering to pay attention to the world around him. this time, parallel to the last, he flinched, head snapping to view the voice. he didn't growl or really jump this time, however, since by now he was pretty used to his perpetrator being one of the triplets. his tail flicked, ears perking as he studied her gaze. it could have been hydra, or maybe ayla, but he went on a whim. "lyra?" he questioned cautiously, a small tilt of his head. a smile gentle broke the stillness of his face, and he glanced back up the the sky.

"meteor shower," he then said, his tail beginning to tap the ground behind him.

It was a coincidence that he would run into his daughter and Osprey's kid when he made his way further up the mountain to watch the skies as it seemed like stars themselves came down. He didn't know what they were, not until he heard a distant 'meteor shower' and recognised Terance's voice just as he rounded the corner up to the location that he and Lyra were at.

Of yet unaware of the potentially awkward situation he was creating between them Charon said, "It's pretty amazing, huh?" while he approached, glad to take a break from fixing things for Amekaze for the upcoming birth at least for a little bit.

He remembered her! She felt butterflies suddenly come to life in her stomach as he spoke her name and she felt blood rush to her cheeks. Her cheeky smile grew wide before she looked away shyly — the epitome of a totally meek, bashful teenager. "Hi, Terance!" she replied in a hushed but cheery tone; a confirmation that his suspicions were correct. She knew the difficulties telling her sisters apart, especially being so new to the pack. Drawing back again before sitting beside him, Lyra followed his gaze to the stars, gasping as she realised some stars were falling!

"Wha—!" she began before she was interrupted by none other than Charon. The heat in her cheeks spread across her face then, all the way to the tips of her ears. She almost scowled in his direction — couldn't he see she hadn't seen Terance in like, forever! Her expression remained neutral, however, and she offered a smile in greeting to her father as he approached. "Meteors?" she questioned, turning back to Terance curiously.

the earthy shadow sat beside him, her furs brushing against him just barely as she passed. he watched her, gaze averted from the sky, resting instead on her deep, blue gaze. she had confirmed that it was her-- not hydra-- and he believed it, but he stared all the same. it'd been a while, and even though he'd been on the mountain for a hot minute, he'd yet to see her. he was just soaking up her presence, which was warm and calming-- he liked it.

he was going to say something, maybe lean towards her-- or something, he couldn't help himself-- but the proud, unmistakable voice of lyra's fucking dad sounded from just behind them. it scared him, mostly because he'd already been spooked by lyra, and he didn't expect another scare. he tensed up, his tail stilling, but when his head whipped around he realized he had nothing to worry about... except that maybe the fact that he was sitting oh-so close to the mans daughter.

but charon made no comment about that.

"yeah-- mom said they were meteors," he said, repeating the word one more time for lyra. he looked to charon before his gaze found the sky again, waiting for another light to streak by. "it is," he then agreed. he wanted to ask if charon knew what they were, exactly, since osprey always had a knack for storytelling and tended to make shit up as they went-- but he already knew the term so felt like he was obligated to know everything else about them. he took a stab at it. "she said that when the stars got too tired, they'd fall to the earth to rest--" that sounded stupid-- childish... oh! suck it up terance. "do you know what really happens?" he asked, stomach knotting as he turned to look at charon again. he'd never seen a star on the ground before, surely his mother's story wasn't 100% true. maybe charon would know, though it pained him to not seem to all-knowing in front of lyra.

There was unmistakable awkwardness in the air, though Charon couldn't quite pinpoint why. He was usually quite good at these things but to him, Terance, being Osprey's son and all, was a lot like the nice cousin who would never do anything unappropriate, so it didn't even occur to him that anything might be going on here. Anyway — Charon figured it was just because they were startled by his approach and paid it no further mind.

Truthfully, Charon didn't know what meteors were, but Osprey's story sounded legit to him, considering he always thought that they were falling stars (even the term 'meteor' was new to him). He nodded in confirmation as he said, "Yep, that's what they are — stars that are falling." This probably would've been the perfect moment for a long story so that the youths wouldn't feel so scrutinised and he was distracted from them, but that wasn't about to happen.

Either he had no clue they wanted this moment to themselves or Charon was asserting his authority by remaining. She honestly couldn't tell which was more likely. As much as she loved her father, he could be ever so slightly dense sometimes. Yet he also loved throwing his weight around as the dominant figure of the pack, especially around his daughters and the friends they brought home...

Whatever. So long as he didn't make things anymore awkward, Lyra let him sit with them. She wasn't sure she'd even be able to bring herself to ask him to leave. She gave an almost apologetic smile to Terance before her ears perked as he spoke, explaining the meteors. She turned back to the night sky with a sense of wonder, eyes darting around as she tried to spot anymore of the falling stars. As Charon confirmed Terance's explanation, her eyes widened even more with awe. Excitedly, she looked to her father with a wide grin.

"That's amazing!" she paused, glancing once at Terance with a tilt of her head. "Have you seen a fallen star before? Like, on the ground?" Surely, with all the travel he had done, he must have!

charon's response actually shocked him, and his ears went up with interest. so, osprey hadn't made that up? whoa. so those really were falling stars? whoa. terance stared with bright, emerald orbs as another rather streaky star fell to the earth. only barely did he hear lyra's question through his own thoughts. "no," he said after a brief pause of realization-- that someone was speaking to him-- and then glanced her way, "i guess they're kind rare." then, his attention turned to charon. surely, charon was way older than he and lyra were, it was more likely that he had spotted one in his ripe age.

Though he had never actually spotted a fallen star on the ground, Charon wasn't going to say that because it sounded lame. At the same time that Terance replied, he started, though his "Ye—" —s was cut short when he and Terance spoke at the same time. Only then, looking at Lyra, he realised that she was focussed on him alone. Well, that was somewhat disappointing, and he was starting to realise he wasn't the hero out here but the odd one out.

Not liking that thought, Charon decided to elaborate further on the lie he had already intended to make up so that he could return to being Lyra's hero. "Yes, I did see a fallen star once. It was a huge rock that shimmered very brightly even though it'd fallen. I guess they shimmer less with time though, if they've been on earth for longer. Mine must've been very recent." He smiled and looked at Terance and Lyra, hoping that his story had impressed them.

She felt her excitement waver as Terance admitted he hadn't seen one, a brief flicker of disappointment almost flashing across her face before she quickly masked it. She couldn't have him think she was being rude. Perhaps the fallen stars that made it to the earth were rare. Maybe some burned up before reaching the ground? Or faded from existence upon landing? Or were snatched away by those pesky coyotes?

She looked to Charon as Terance did, the younger wolves now staring at the older man with both admiration and anticipation— Lyra was, at the very least. She beamed as he proudly announced he had seen a star! It sounded wonderful, and she hoped she would have the chance to see one for herself, but the fact that it faded with time was an uncomfortable one. She glanced back at the sky almost wistfully. Were the witnessing the death of millions of stars? "They belong in the sky," she said quietly, looking back to her father. "Is that why they go dull?" She suddenly felt so sad.

though this new information didn't necessarily make terance sad, as it had lyra, it did cause him to frown to see lyra look so suddenly upset. he gave her a gentle nudge-- nothing crazy, since charon was right there-- and a light smile. though impressed by charon's story, he was more focused on lyra by now, and parts of charon's story suddenly went overlooked.

"my mom would've said they came down to show off for us earth-dwellers before retiring into the ground," he offered gently, glancing to charon, "you know, be admired from up close by all their fans."

Charon was glad to see that his story had the result he had hoped for — his little girl was looking up to him in admiration and pride — and who was to say that stars didn't look like that? It wasn't like anyone could ever fact-check his story anyway, so it was foolproof. Lyra got sad after she realised that the stars lost their shimmer when they fell down to the earth and he wished he could make her happier, but it seemed to make sense to him that stars would lose their shine after they fell, because it was in a way like they were dying.

Terance had a story to make up for whatever sadness Lyra felt about the falling stars, though. Charon smiled as he thought of Osprey and said, "That does sound like her." Then, after a short beat, "I mean, it's probably true. Osprey knows this kind of stuff." Well, mostly she was good at making up stories off the top of her head, but whatever, it didn't matter much. It was easier to explain Lyra this way.

Wrap up soon bc I suck? (I loved this thread tho <3)

The small bump she received from Terance was enough to make her cheeks grow hot, and she stole a quick glimpse towards him, ever mindful of her father. While she was sure he didn't mind that she and the boy were close, she didn't want to be subject to any questions that their small exchanges might spark. So she gave Terance a thankful smile in return. His explanation brought a smile to her face, even if it was only one of amusement. The way he — or, rather, his mother — almost personified the stars was adorable.

She accepted the reason with a solemn nod, feeling a little better after Charon's clarification. The stars had been dying anyway; they may as well return to the land their admirers came from. She turned to Terance. "Your mother sounds very knowledgable," she said with admiration. "I hope I get to meet her one day." She was not sure if that was even a possibility, but one could hope. She was glad at least to see some of her wisdom had seemed to rub off on her son.

we're welcome to fade this here or if you guys want to post again?? (:

terance beamed. why yes, osprey is very knowledgable. he nodded to lyra, lips curved into a broad smile, but he was fighting hard to push back the fact that they probably never would. he loved his mother dearly, and though he'd left while she was in better health, he knew she could never make the trip back to moonspear.

though, perhaps one day he could take lyra up to see her... and dante... but that thought was an even further stretch, he quickly decided.

"yeah," was all he muttered, his tail tapping gently against the ground. his green gaze stared into the night sky, each star twinkling. even with charon here, terance was glad he got to spend this time with lyra, and would sit here until she left-- however long that might be.
