Kendra wasn't sure what she had taken but it was not good. She wanted to become better with poisons and perhaps even find plants that are poisonous. She sniffed out plants she didn't know as a Botanist. Often she made a guess by the smell of the plant if they were poisonous or not. She was usually so careful if she suspected poison. However, she made a mistake today. She confused some beans for seeds of a plant. Sadly, Kendra never took up Portia on that offer of learning how to treat poisons.

Instantly the female felt her lip swell up. Perhaps these were not normal seeds? Kendra had taken up Castor Beans instead of Seeds. As her lip swelled she swallowed what she thought were seeds. Her eyes started to water. Something was wrong, even her throat seemed to swell up. Instantly the female wheezed for air. She let out a weak howl for help. Yet, with that howl, all the air was out of her lungs and she couldn't get new air back into her lungs. She female gasped for air but she couldn't get enough back into her lungs.

Soon her vision blacked out. The young female crumpled towards the ground and stayed there. Her mind wandered, slowly everything around her was becoming dim. Her main focus was trying to get air into her lungs. Kendra was not blessed today. However, the dark female never feared to die. As her mind gave up on trying to breathe Kendra slowly became more peaceful. There wasn't any pain, and finally, finally she would meet her mother and see her twin brother again. The young witch was finally at rest.

Bye, Kendra <3

though the pups were not old enough to be out on their own, the older they became the more comfortable portia felt leaving them with wildfire or dio or-- on occasions-- a different well-trusted member of the pack. she hardly ever asked thuringwethil to babysit, the idea felt sort of weird, only when she desperately needed her to step in did she ask. besides, heda usually had her paws full with her own children, and wifi had more.

after passing the babies off for a few hours, portia took to the territory to find some more herbs for her cache-- which had gone rather dry in the recent months with the babies and what not. it was the smell of death that grabbed her attention, not one of lavender or poppies. it wasn't an ordinary smell, it smelled like wolf. her heart clenched, lungs freezing, and the speckled fisa began full speed towards wherever the smell was. as she got closer, she found it was mixed with kendra's scent, and she prayed that maybe sweet baby kendra had just found a trespasser-- that was what she prayed for. of course, it was too good to be true, and when she arrived she was too late.

she lowered to her stomach, ears pressed against her head, slowly crawling towards kendra. there was no movement, her gaze was glassy, and she didn't react to portia's gentle nudges to the cheek. her eyes welled, but her gaze searched the area. she knew kendra's specialty, she remembered the conversation they'd had a while ago. poisons. her gaze fell upon a few spare beans, she knew them by sight-- knew to stay away. surely, kendra knew this too? had this been a suicide? or a mistake? portia could not be sure. she didn't know who to call, didn't have the voice to call, so the fisa merely pressed her muzzle against her cheek and waited for someone with more power to come. if anything, she'd keep kendra's body safe.

Eske moves through the familiar territory of Drageda in search of Kendra. It is with the older girl that the Cheka elects to spend as much of her down time when Heda does not need her with and she has prepared another hunting lesson for them. Her scent is as familiar to Eske as her own and she follows the trail that Kendra leaves at a leisurely pace. Eventually, along the path Portia’s scent crossed with Kendra’s which did not strike Eske as particularly odd. After all, the pair shared a common interest and for a split second the Cheka hesitated not wanting to intrude upon them as they talked about their plants. Conversations that went way over Eske’s head, but of which she was always a willing participant if only to see how it light up Kendra’s face as she spoke about them. In the end, there was a intuitive nagging in her gut that told her to continue on. When she found the end of the trail …she was not prepared. Her eyes go to Kendra first and Eske’s body freezes, going cold as she stares at the unnatural and eerie stillness of Kendra. She knows what it means even as her heart vehemently denies it. She is a warrior, she is a huntress. She has seen (and caused) plenty of death to know when she is looking upon a corpse. For a moment that feels like a lifetime she is emotionless in her shock, and numb. Until she is not. It comes rushing upon her like an unbidden tsunami that crashes upon her with a raw “No!” choked off in a violent sob that hurts her rib cage. She rushes forward, blind to Portia’s presence as she closes the distance between Kendra’s body and her own. “Kendra,” She is shivering as she tries to suppress the hard sobs that come from deep within her. She licks the older girl’s cheek, and nudges her muzzle knowing that it is too late. She presses the crown of her head to Kendra’s and sobs until she cannot draw a proper breath. “Bring her back, Portia. Bring her back.” She demands in hiccups in-between uncontrolled sobs knowing that there was no reviving her. Kendra was gone and she took a fair chunk of Eske’s heart with her. She feels it's absence with a sharpness that further robs her of breath.

somehow, portia had not been in the know lately. usually, the speckled fisa was all about knowing that gossip, but she hadn't had the slightest idea that kendra and eske were a potential item. she'd smelled them together around before, but she'd never really put two and two together. she was shocked to see such emotion erupt from the usual stone that eske was, and with her ears still pinned back she left kendra to press herself to eske-- should the cheka let her. "eske," she said softly, laying gentle licks to her cheek in hopes of calming her breathes, "there's nothing i can do." she was trying to imagine wildfire dead, or dio, or either one of her babies. this was surely a devastating sight, but she was not so close to kendra. whatever eske was feeling, portia could not fully relate to, though she desperately wanted to be with eske in this moment-- she empathize with her. "i'm here, eske," she added, quietly. it was not much, and probably not useful, but portia wouldn't leave if the cheka didn't want her to.

Kendra’s flesh grows cold, the warmth quickly leeching from her body in her death, her grief preoccupying her that she almost forgets Portia is even there regardless that she had just plead for the healer to bring Kendra back to her seconds — or was it a lifetime? — ago? She is startled when she feels warmth and rises her head from where she has pressed it against Kendra’s to look at Portia realizing sluggishly with a rough hiccup of breath as she tries to regain control of it and calm herself down. The older woman presses against her, even offering her gentle licks that causes Eske’s lips to tremble and the ripping sobs to start all over again. In any normal circumstance Eske would have been her usual aggressive self and snapped Portia away but instead she leaned into her. Her emotional strength is gone and all she can do is feel the infinite numb of her limbs and the harsh, unrelenting heartbreak at losing someone she truly, deeply cared for. She does not know Portia well but in that moment Eske realizes that she is grateful for Portia’s presence and that she needs her. “Why?” She manages after a struggle. Why did this have to happen? Why Kendra? Why couldn’t Portia save her? Why? Eske does not seek answers of course. She knows what Portia is telling her. She knows you cannot bring back what is dead. Eske knows this but her heart combats her logic. “It’s not fair Portia. It’s not f-fair.” She draws in a deep breath and holds it and lets it out, repeating this process a few times until she feels she has herself under some semblance of control; because she has to be in control. She has duties to return to. She has to figure out what they are going to do with the body because Eske wasn't just going to let Kendra's body for the scavengers.

There had been no direction in her walking until she took note of Eske and Portia nearby with a heaviness on the air that doesn’t sit right with her. Her ears fall back against her head and it takes a second or two to snap out of it and speed up only to find the two women near one another and Kendra on the ground. She does not need to hear the exchange between the two to know what is going on and her feet slow to a stop, eyes dropping to the body on the ground.

Thuringwethil had been rather fond of Kendra, even in her short time of being with them, and to see the heartache coming from Eske causes her eyes to close. She releases a slow and steady breath before she shakes herself free of her own feelings and steps up, coming up on the other side of Eske. She searches for Portia’s gaze for answers, uncertain if the warrior is capable of bringing herself together long enough to speak.

eske sobbed into her, and portia felt more protective than she ever had-- even with her own damn children. she wrapped herself best she could (as she was still rather small) around the cheka and licked at her the space between her ears. they were rhythmic licks that she hoped comforted, but she herself was feeling rather sick after seeing this. her gaze fell to heda, but now was not the time to explain, not with eske here. when eske's sobs were further apart and shock had seemed to settle in, she called for melchior to escort her to her den-- she'd be there soon. medicine for shock and sleep would help, she thought.

she did not stand, instead pressed her own nose to kendra's cheek. she took a few deep breaths before looking to her heda, frowning. "poison. no one's fault, her own mistake," she murmured softly, gaze falling back to kendra, "i arrived too late-- i don't think i had enough time to mix an antidote for her anyway."

It is a long moment before anything happens. Portia tends to Eske, dismissing her from the situation at hand. Melchior is there within minutes and a minor exchange, and then he takes the Cheka back to the den. She turns her head and watches her disappear while she remains stone-face. Her ears twitch upon her head but she turns and refocuses back on the healer as Gyda’s child is escorted away. Thuringwethil licks her dried lips, looking down upon the girl on the ground.

Kendra had not achieved much in Drageda since her time being and she teeters back and forth what to do. She’d warmed Thuringwethil’s heart, though, as her dedication and loyalty had proven quickly in her time. She bounced back from starvation and contributed the moment she’d been able and, in that short time, had become part of her own. She breathes a slow sigh through clenched teeth, stepping up just as Melchior returns to help where he can. Once, she steps close enough to lower her nose to the girl’s cheek and, softly and quietly, yu gonplei ste odon.” She remains low only for a moment before she steps back and returns to her spot.

“There is a clearing on a northern cliff, bordered by the redwoods,” she says. Her tone remains as it always does. When she looks between the two she has to help, she wonders at the irony that those that know the most about plants stand before her while Kendra remains on the ground. “Do you have any more palm leaves?” she asks between the two, hopeful that one of them will be able to provide.

The moment her voice reached his ears, the boy was off. He had promised to keep her safe, to protect her, but the twisting of his stomach told him that he had failed long before he saw her body—her body. Stilled and lifeless, he was unable to approach, to steal a closer look at her corpse. Alexander could do nothing aside from stay back, far from those that crowded her, and watch everything unravel right before his eyes. His friend was gone, dead just like her mother, and he was once again alone. Anger began to rise within his chest, only to die before it could truly be born, for he could not be angry at her. He couldn’t yell, he couldn’t hate her, he could only force his body to turn away, tearing his gaze from the empty vessel. For her, he wanted to tilt his head back and share his grief with all that his voice could reach, but even his voice refused to disturb the moment. It was with his head low and his mind—his heart—absent that the young Inuk took off through the territory and then beyond the borders, leaving behind her body but, he believed, not her spirit.

There is little more exchange. Portia gets what Thuringwethil needs and between herself and Melchior, they ultimately get Kendra to the location she intends. The opening is several yards wide from any redwood and the cliff acts as a natural barrier. Melchior begins the shallow grace where she will rest and few more words are exchanged before, and reluctantly, they part ways again.
