The Floodlands we go where we want to

and thus, the saga of Kia encountering crappy places continued. today was a vast plain, buzzing with insect life and completely saturated with water. on a quest for water, under the impression that drinking might quell the sharp keening of hunger in her stomach, she had gone towards the nearest source she could spot. and yet she had not quite expected this much water, ranging from mud to puddles to ponds to lakes. the earth sucked at her paws hungrily, and every step came with a drawn out squelching. her expression was one of firm distaste, ears flickering irritatedly at the hordes of mosquitoes and blackflies that surrounded her.

oh, the flies. she had been the only creature stupid, and desperate, enough to cross the Floodlands in the heat of midday. Horseflies and mosquitoes nipped at her back, where her fur was thinner after a previous, and rather unfortunate, slide down an incline. her tail lashed, and she shook every few seconds in painful irritation. finally, when she neared the nearest body of water, she dove into it with a victory cry. water quickly calmed the burning bites, and under the water, she was invincible; at least to insect bites. with only her optics and muzzle unsubmerged, she looked very much like an alligator as she glared at the insects, waiting and hoping for them to disperse.
A meaningful silence is better than meaningless words.

It had been a while since he travelled past the shore, but his legs itched again, and he trotted along the waters, then dropped south. A mountain range grew in front of him, tall and imposing, rivalling the mountains to the north. The land behind it was, without a better word, wet. Rivers and lakes abounded, and from the excess water came floodlands, marshes, and wetlands. Hush snorted in disgust at the sucking mud, his light feet drawing him onto the somewhat harder land. As he did so, a loud splash and cry caught his attention. The mute blinked, eyes wide in confusion, slowly, trepidly, walking towards the sound, skirting the muck as best he could until he saw the eyes and ears of some creature in the water. He barked, confused as all hell, wondering what kind of water-wolf he was seeing.

Note: Hush cannot form words. He can, however, chuff, snarl, bark, and make a yodel-like howl.
