All Welcome
A gentle mist had settled over the mountainous territory, giving the province a distinguishable facade of mysteriousness. It was within the heart of the alpine in which Amekaze was curled around her newest litter and providing them both the protection and nutrition that allowed them to thrive in their most delicate of days. Vela would come to learn of her mother's actions in time, and it would be only then that she would fully appreciate all that had been done for her and her littermates. But, for now, the freckled child was oblivious to this and lived her life with a near-constant sense of content. Of course, there were the occasions that sent the Pi's life into a chaotic down spiral, but thankfully such occasions were far and few between.

With a week of life under her belt, Vela had grown. Her initial lack of mobility had evolved into scooting along with a turtle-like pace. She was able to meander slowly, yet, still found herself usually glued to the same place at her mother's side. Today, though, was different. There was something inherent that struck the most peculiar sensation in her chubby legs, urging her to move. And so, she did just that, dragging herself sluggishly towards her nearest sibling. It was not long until she was before another body and aligned to "t-bone" her sibling. Of course, given her speed, the collision happened with a gentle "boop" and resulted in her nose pressing to the other child's wooly flank. Not sure what to do at this point she lingered, realizing that the furry mask made it harder to breathe. Despite this, she did not move.

The pups were young yet, which had its advantages — they weren't as mobile yet so they didn't run around everywhere — and disadvantages — mostly that they were loud, but also that they were very fragile still. So far the pups seemed to be growing up well, except for the little runty girl, the dark one. The dark boy that was born after her seemed to be doing much better, to Charon's relief, but he wasn't sure if he should expect the runty girl to make it into adulthood.

He was watching the pups while Amekaze slept. Most of them were quiet, but one of the white girls was wandering around. If he wasn't mistaken he saw some freckling on her snout already and he wondered if she'd grow up to look much like him. She wriggled her way into one of her siblings and he chuckled as he watched her sit there after the collision, then moved his face down and nuzzled the fur on her back.

Unsure what to do with this literal roadblock, Vela laid where she had been stopped. Unsure of just how to evade it, Vela scrambled attempting to work out how to continue her wading. Her chubby forelimbs churned as she swayed her head from side to side. Not moving her hind legs, as Vela had worked out through trial and error that this was how she could get closer to her sleeping sibling, she found herself in an even less pleasurable position. Her head was tipped back slightly, and her chin rested on the other's pale flank. In this inflexible position, Vela felt stuck, and there was only one way she had learned about getting herself out of any undesirable situations.

Just as she opened her mouth to let out a wail, she felt a gentle touch on her back. Pleased, yet still uncomfortable in her position, Vela let out a frail whine; a sound which expressed the mix of emotions she currently felt.

Among his litter, he was making for a nondescript presence, growing, sleeping, eating, and wiggling around a little beside his sisters, often tucked against his mother or father somewhere. Usually he didn't raise a lot of fuss because generally speaking, he was pretty content with his state of things. His personal bubble stayed small, and the worst of his inconveniences were typically remedied before he could decide what to do with the problem in the first place.

When he found himself bumped around out of his slumber by who-knows-what, he grunted about, each one a little louder than the last, squirming about his fresh frustrations.

But, luckily for his sleeping mother, this stopped short in favor of a gooey, toothless yawn soon afterward. To the very best of his capabilities, the steely boy wrinkled up his face and promptly decided he was still too tired for this!

She seemed to respond positively to the touch, but let out a whine nonetheless that showed a sign of discomfort. The pup she had bumped into seemed to awaken now, too, though they were still too tiny for Charon to keep the dark boy and girl apart, except for the fact that the girl was much louder (and, at first, had been a lot smaller, but was now more or less catching up and he could only tell which was which when next to each other).

Charon pushed Vela with his nose so that her face was no longer in her brother's fur to see if that would ease her whines.

SO sorry for the delay, loves! It won't happen again!

It was in her fussing that something wet lowered to her face, causing  Vela to freeze at his touch. Allowing her father to direct her, she was soon guided to a position in which allowed her to both breathe easier and find peace after the storm of her discomfort. Vela then fell silent after suppressing a satisfied sigh, happy with the reaction that had come from her outburst.

As usual, matters changed before he had a firm grasp on them at all. Jarilo wobbled his head around, smacked his lips, and then sunk back down once he found himself less bothered. He would be able to work with this, so, all he had to say about it was a little huff of a sigh.

He curled into himself just a bit more, and tried to go back to sleep.

The pups seemed to steady and Charon was glad that they were quiet again now. It was amazing how much of a champ calming down a bunch of pups could make you feel. "Yeah, good," Charon murmured and he lowered his head to the ground. All the sleepy pups were making him feel drowsy too and it seemed the perfect opportunity for a quick nap now that the pups were quiet again.

In her satisfaction, Vela found comfort. Charon's deep baritone, the gentle rumble of her father's voice that washed over her, calmed her to the point in which a yawn breached from her lips. Perhaps it was the combination of her sudden outburst and her father's voice that brought about her fatigue, but, regardless of the cause, the effect was quickly consuming the freckled Pi.

Curling into herself, Vela situated herself to resemble a bite-sized donut. One into the position, the child, allowed herself to drift off, indicating that this had happened with a light snore.
