Happy National Meteor Watch Day, Easthollow!

The end of the month was marked by what felt like a particularly early sunset. The sun seemed in a hurry to dip below the horizon, leaving in its wake a brilliant green flash, quick as an errant thought. The cloudless summer sky was a swirl of purples and blues; and when the waxing gibbous moon tiptoed up through the tenebrae, her light shone especially brightly.

Though the moon was still about a week shy of her full illumination, her unnatural luminescence and the pale cyan halo that appeared around her made it seem that she’d skipped ahead in the lunar cycle. Moondogs glimmered to life like a pair of symmetrical parentheses — and then, in scant trickles at first, the stars began to dance across the sky.

They came in ones and twos — trios and quartets, quintets and sextets — and then they lanced the darkness in the tens and twenties, filling the balmy summer night with kaleidoscopic light. The stelliferous light show was bound to last for a few days at least, but this was its brightest hour. The territory’s trademark stone pillars were brilliantly illuminated, along with the labyrinth of aspen trees that was the Pando Clone Forest. The Marino River that flowed through it created a mesmerizing mirror effect as the stars overhead were reflected upon its crystalline surface.

Krypton had been enjoying the peaceful night by herself as she wandered along the edges of the territory. After she finished up her job, she had meandered along to a clearing where the stone circle was. Then, she saw it. The stones were full of color, illuminated by a strange light. Quirking a brow, the large woman turned around before lifting her gaze to the sky and her jaw dropped open. The sky was full of stars and meteors, their tails sparking and fizzing and glowing and--

She could hardly take it all in, it was so beautiful. Krypton felt her legs become weak as she was forced to fall to her haunches and sit down, red locked on the sky as the meteors carved their paths through the sky, the haloed moon casting her light onto the agouti.

Sunny was sleeping outside of the den as usual, the night air warm enough to allow it. He was restless that night, unable to settle down and sleep for some reason. He walked around the main part of camp until in the corner of his eye he caught flashes of light coming from the sky. Lifting his gaze to stare at the stars he gasped and flicked his ears back, feeling uncertainty towards this odd display. What was going on? He had never seen something like this before, stars falling toward the ground and it honestly scared him.

Pelt bristling with anxiety he gave a soft whimper and sought out some company. He spotted Krypton in the distance and noticed her staring up at the sky. The ground  and stones were glowng from the sky's display, the flashes bright enough to show on the ground beneath his feet. "What's going on?" He asked in a tremulous voice sitting down a few feet away from the woman.

She didn't take notice to Sunny's appearence at first, all she could see were the lights that flickered in the sky and illuminated the stones. Though, when he spoke to her, Krypton felt her mouth shut before repopening to speak. "A meteor shower" she said to him, seeing him come closer to sit with her. "I've never seen one so... alive before," she said to him in an amazed voice, "I'm no meteorologist, but I know this doesn't happen too often," she joked as her eyes remained glued onto the canvas of a sky, "it's beautiful."

He took note of how relaxed she seemed, there was no fear in her posture but amazement and awe instead. It seemed this display had a name, Meteor shower krypton called it and he gave a slight nod of his head before lifting his gaze to stare at the flickering and dancing lights in the sky. He slowly felt his fur lie flat and he lowered himself into a laying position beside her, his eyes following the movement of what to him seemed like falling stars "They are really interesting." he admitted still feeling unsure about the display.

Giving a small sigh he wondered if his father and Dawn were watching this, and what Dawn felt and thought about the weird sky show. "I honestly thought that something was wrong with the stars.." he admitted awkwardly, giving krypton a goofy smile before rolling onto his side so he could see the sky better.

Krypton stayed silent, only letting the sight overtake her eyes and attention. She nodded her head though, meteors truly were interesting, mesmerizing even. It was surprising to see such an active shower, she wondered when another one would ever occur again like this. When Sunny said his little joke, Krypton chuckled and shook her head before casting her glassy eyes over to him. "It's quite a surprising sight to say the least, I don't blame you." Krypton slouched a bit, releasing some tension in her shoulders and kept her eyes up.

Sunny nodded and felt himself growing tired. The flickering of the lights dancing in the sky was mesmerizing as well as soothing, and so he rested his head on his paws and took a ddep breath allowing his body to settle onto the ground. It was a warm enough night to allow him to sleep outside, and if it rained his den was close enough to retreat to in a quick amount of time.

He murmured a small "Goodnight krypton.." his voice already drifting off into the slurred speech of sleepiness.

Sunny out! sorry for vanishing!

No worries, thanks for joining! <3
It seemed Sunny had grown tired from the nice and calming sight and the warm summer night air. She didn't blame him, all she could do was just smile and chuckle to herself. "Goodnight, dear Sunny" she whispered to him, laying down and resting her head ontop of her paws, her eyes trailing the asteroids that flew across the dark canvas-like sky, sparking and flashing with beauty and brightness.
